IOWA is in...

Post by cwallace »

I was QUITE shocked and VERY pleased to see the results on the democrat side...

I am a pretty solid republican, but I honestly LIKE Obama...

Can anyone please point me to his downfall? Is there anything overly negative, controversy, reasons to hate this man?

Seriously...Either they are very well hidden or they are few and far between...Most of the other candidates have SOME level of notable controversy surrounding them...

Others? What did you think of the outcome...how solid do you think theses results are?

His endorsement by Oprah will bring in some knee jerkers who were looking forward to throwing their artillery at Hillary.

If you look at his politics, he really is to the left of even Hillary. His main asset is that he ISN'T Hillary. Yes, he does seem likable and has the qualities of a leader, and not just another politician. That is something more important than platform. If a dem has to win, I prefer him to Clinton.

Huckabee vs Obama in November? THAT would be an interesting election! Far right vs far left, issues and differences clearly defined, and little middle ground.

Hillary Rodham's war chest will still outlast Obama.
She's in it for the long haul.. this is the kinda
scenario that the Clinton machine is built for.

Hubby didn't win Iowa either back in the day.

True, but other than just being a democrat...he isn't a 'regular' politician as stated a few posts back...he is more of a 'regular guy' than that from an outside view...

I can respect that...

I will admit, I like the guys personality and he seems genuine. I think that he actually believes in everything he says and he isn't just saying sh*t to win.

His downfall will come when people actually listen to his ideas and where he wants to lead us. Change for the sake of change isn't always a good idea. He is super far left and I don't think a lot of his ideas are going to sit very well with people once they hear them and understand them fully. As for Huckabee, he's not that far right at all. He's essentially a pro-life Democrat if you look at how he's governed in the past. Raise taxes, redistribute the money to the poor. He compared illegal immigrants to slaves. He's pretty liberal other than on abortion actually. People hear "Baptist minister" and think he's Jerry Falwell, but he's from the Bill Clinton wing of the Southern Baptists, not the conservative wing of the Southern Baptists. If you don't know there's a huge split between Southern Baptists over social issues and issues of Scriptural authority. He's not as liberal as some of the liberal side, but he's nowhere near as conservative as the Southern Baptists who boycotted Disney after Disney announced it's plan to offer health benefits to domestic partners either.

Not much there that I can say stands out as anything to not like him for...not agreeing with some of his ideas is going to happen...I don't even agree with EVERYTHING that Bush does or has done...

That is just politics...but seve said it best with the fact that he isn't just saying sh*t to win...which is pretty much Hillary in a nutshell...She would declare herself a republican if she thought it would get her in the white house again...

That cocaine thing might jump up and bite him too, considering it's a felony and all (not a misdemeanor like marijuana use).

He also was involved in some shady land deal, I don't really know the details though.

and hey, Huckabee plays bass - even if the idiot journalists do all call it a guitar - and has Chuck Norris' endorsement. Hardly seem presidential though. Since bass players generally do all the work for no recognition. A president should play drums :)

I guess I was a little surprised to see Barack pull through in Iowa. My parents live out there, and it's quite a racist and backwards state in some parts. Maybe they've progressed since I first started going out there?

Seriously though, Huckabee? If that dude wins (I don't believe he will), I'm getting the f**k out of this country. And yes, I'm mostly saying that based on the fact that he doesn't believe in evolution. You people realize that nearly every European thinks we're idiots for having that crap still be considered, right? Of course we all know my strong opinions on that, and I'm not going to go there. He doesn't deserve to be leading sh*t though with that old thinking. This country would lose a lot of progress intellectually and scientifically with another one of those guys at the helm.

In fact, I would vote for Hillary based on the simple fact that she is willing to put more money towards science and research.
