Kelty indicted on 9 counts by grand jury

Actually this isn't the 1st case of mayoral campaign finance laws be broken.

On the day of the indictement, Kelty's opponent was quoted as follows:

“Yesterday (Tuesday) was a very sad day for our community. We were exposed to something our city has never experienced before.â€

I've got a feeling the Republican Party leadership in town is behind this...

Well, from an inadvertent foot in mouth standpoint, I believe it was Shine who started this ball rolling. Trouble (for the GOP) being that Nelson Peters didn't win the People's Champ vote and the little ball Shine rolled turned into a mess for the party leading to their candidate getting photographed with poor lighting. I can only guess the party never figured Kelty to have a shot at the prize and decided to sandbag him early on. Little did they suspect it would come back to bite them.

Yes, agreed, because IMHO, local politics are more important than national - or at least that's how it should be. Power back to local municipalities where people actually are neighbors and have a reason to help other people in their community.

Back on topic. GOP is screwed, Kelty is a nice guy and he's screwed too. Interesting piece on the Win Moses debacle on the morning news today. I didn't live here then, so I didn't have any first hand recollection. He's an even bigger slimebag than I imagined. Taking a plea in which he agreed to step down as Mayor, only to then ask the party caucus to name him Mayor 11 days later. And it sounds like his crime was far worse than anything Kelty's accused of doing.
