I doubt their will ever be another white castle in FW. I've had several former coworkers tell me their used to be one and that it ran into the ground.
Plus white castle sucks.

Go to Jimmy John's.

Your mom wants you to eat Jimmy John's.

And they give out free smells.

One more time, then I'm done.

No White Castles in Fort Wayne.

Wasn't one at Coliseum and Clinton.

Wasn't one where Ruby Tuesdays is. (That was the Moonraker, and CharKing Cafeteria before that.)

Wasn't one downtown next to the YMCA. (Another Azar's product...Fat Fritz' Hamburger Stand. Azar's By The Numbers before that.)

Wasn't one at Southtown, Northcrest, Anthony Wayne Center, or Gateway to the Uncommons.

Wasn't one next to Kresge's, Grants, Stillmans, Wolf and Dessauers, Hillman's, or Murphy's.

Never did it exist, in any way, in Fort Wayne or Allen County. The company has said so. Library records confirm my recollections, and that of others.

Three Powers in Fort Wayne (Harrison, Maumee and Clinton and Coliseum)....No White Castle.

I'm through talking now.

And a thumbs up to Jimmy Johns....It ain't Iggy's but it's damn good.

i only ever got iggy's once and it was high-priced and the bread was solid. i never went back. i had a friend who worked there who got fired for not doing anything... when no one went it it made it hard not to do nothing.... i've also heard of a drug-ring going through there?

hm.

Um....

I guess it shows how far, we've come, OA, that some people considered 'regulars' don't know that "Iggy" trolls these boards on a semi-regular basis....and would possibly object to such heresay and slander.

Plus the bread wasn't hard, and the freakin potato soup rocked!

@ gfresh- getting low. i actually need you (or garr, if you are seriously going) to provide me with a crave case so i can do my pictorial of how to make un-wack freezer slyders.

@ tiny- i only remember what i think i remember when i was but a wee lad of less than 5 years. i stand behind my remembery, but if you've gone so far as to check the library records, you're a bigger nerd than i, and prolly right. and please check your PM's.

@ marty- the only drug ring that was going through there was prolly from the felon employees wallace hired at $1.23 an hour that ripped him off and robbed (LITERALLY) the place blind.

i miss the potato soup.....

for awhile, i had a "bring white castle to fort wayne" petition going, and i posted the communication i had with the person from WC corporate here. it seems to have vanished.

damned wallace.

i will look for and post the link. i know (at the risk of taking credit for WC-FW) they were actively watching and considering my petition and communique.

AA-

I have no recent PMs, save for Ollie....try me again....but I won't read till 4a or so, as I'm out the door.

On the WCFW rumor.....

You know, in the name of Barq's Red Creme Soda, that if such a thing occurs, we will both be there when they unlock the doors...and I'll buy the first Crave case. Hell, I'll even try to use the radio arm to get us in BEFORE they unlock the doors.
:!:

MMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmm.....crinkle fries and slyders.....good f'in eats.

Well, I'm coming up on Friday, but I won't be able to go to the NoRA show because I've been planning on Ho J for months before I even knew about you guys' show, plus I'm meeting a new friend out at C-Street. So anyway, if I do get you a Crave Case, how do you want me to get it to you and what do you want in it?

If anyone else on here wants a Crave Case and can meet me at C-Street this Friday at around 11:30 or so PM me. I'll gladly pick one up for you for the cost of the Crave Case plus a $5 handling/delivery/stinking up my car with Slyder smell fee. There would definitely be a limit (as I'll have limited funds to buy Crave Cases with) and I'll only accept orders from people I know who aren't going to screw me and not show up.

Let me know.

OK, here we go:
Mr. Atherton,

First, in its almost 85 years (anniversary is next spring), White Castle has NEVER franchised domestically. The company did experiment with international franchising in the late '80s and into the '90s. The results were unsatisfactory and we have closed all of those overseas franchises. All White Castles are within the United States and company owned. The Ingram family at a family/share holders meeting in the last 3 years have reiterated their commitment to remaining privately held and to not franchising. This decision will probably not see any other reconsideration for another generation.

Furthermore - our response regarding franchising is a blanket statement, we don't make changes based on the location. We don't franchise and we're not going to at any point in the foreseeable future. We do not borrow money for restaurant expansion (the company has borrowed for larger expenditures i.e. a new meat plant), so our growth strategy is slow, controlled and conservative. I hope that you can respect that decision.

Our Real Estate Department (as well as our Marketing Dept and our Indianapolis Regional office personnel) is aware of your petition and is monitoring it, but does not contact the general public--only property owners and real estate agents. I'm sorry if you were confused by something in our previous letter. Our primary concern over Fort Wayne and other medium sized cities that fall between our current areas of operation (such as Grand Rapids, Springfield and Peoria, IL, etc, etc) is Marketing costs, we prefer to keep our expansion within our established areas to keep down the costs of media buying - and please don't say that we wouldn't need to do media buying in Fort Wayne - experience has taught us otherwise. Now we are currently looking at real estate in Muncie and Marion Indiana, if we find suitable sites, and if these sites are profitable, then we MAY move further north toward Fort Wayne. I hope that you can be patient with us.

If you need any further clarification, please address it to me directly.

Sincerely,

S***** J. ******
Restaurant Operations Analyst

***********************************
Dear Adam Atherton: Thank you for your recent suggestion directed to our corporate office that we locate a White Castle restaurant in your area. We appreciate hearing from customers who enjoy our products. We have noted your suggestion and have forwarded it to our real estate department for consideration. In immediate response to your inquiry, however, White Castle prides itself on growing slowly. White Castle and all its subsidiaries are privately owned and operated. The company does not franchise or offer stock options, and finances its expansion solely through retained earnings. For these reasons, White Castle tends to operate within the existing Midwest and Northeast regions where all our support facilities (meat plants, bakeries, etc.) are located. We believe in this business practice so we can provide a stable company for the more than 12,000+ employees it supports. Due to these factors, as well as advertising efficiencies, we add only approximately fifteen to twenty new restaurants every year to our existing market areas. Based on our current expansion plans, it will be a few years before we open another new market area. A list of our current locations can be sent to you via conventional mail upon request. Thank you again for your interest in White Castle and its products. Sincerely,Elizabeth ******* Director of ***** **** RE: **********

petition can be found here. and it's still not too late to sign it.

and, tiny- i will go all Star Wars on your ass and camp out if i have to.

as long as you don't mind being the second through the doors.... we're cool.

not that i want to take credit for WCFW, but i'm going to grab myself a little sliver of it.....just for posterity.
