The merger is already rapidly happening linguisticaly, culturally, and economicaly.

History shows that it will happen ulltimately politicaly, once the other three happen, unless there is some sudden movement of xenophobia in this country. (I wouldn't put it past us.)

I don't think this lind of union will be peaceful. Americans are too fragmented in their opinions between regions / groups / classes.
