The Pope Must Die!

A notorious Muslim extremist told a demonstration in London yesterday that the Pope should face execution. Anjem Choudary said those who insulted Islam would be "subject to capital punishment".

Now I know this is one voice in Islam, but after you see pictures like this...

Image

And these guys are not screaming for a toga party...they are screaming for the pope's head.

At what point do we as a culture (since this surpasses communities and nations) stand up against this crap. If some radical muslim group decides to play "Whack-the-Pope", do you think the world as a whole is just going to stand by and let it go?

Things are unfortunately lining up and not in a good way.

"A religion of peace..."

Unless you don't follow it, of course. Or dare to criticize it. Sinead O'Connor burns a picture of the Pope on SNL and Catholics everywhere ask that she not be invited back to SNL... Dutch reporter publishes article critical of Islam, Dutch reporter stabbed. Dutch newspaper publishes cartoons depicting Mohammed as violent, Muslims everywhere burn down buildings and threaten to kill everyone. Pope criticizes Islam, Muslims call for assassination of Pope...

Rosie O'Donnell compares Fundamental Christianity to Fundamentalist Islam and dares say Fundamentalist Christians are more dangerous, Fundamentalist Christians ask ABC for apology. A few ask for Rosie to be fired, but no one, to my knowledge, seriously suggests an assassination...

to back this up a little,.. "a 70 year old Italian nun shot in the

I'm sure she needed to be taken out because of the evil
deeds she was performing.

Are you surprised that the extreme side is pissed off? Did you read or hear what the pope said?
Now I know this is one voice in Islam, but after you see pictures like this...

and then follow it up with a point about christanity. Weak dude.

That's assuming our culture is better then theirs; and IMHO there isn't one culture that's better then another. There's no way to decide. Each different culture has different values, norms, etc.

I'm not advocating the death of the pope; I'm almost a pacifist. I think he should be able to speak his mind freely and I think the threat of physical violence against him shows some form of fear of his words.

I think comparing religions is like comparing marble collections. Sure they looks nice and the game is fun but in the end they're all made of glass, AKA they (should) serve the goals of their chosen church. The problem is the texts are millena old and they're been interpurtered by saint and sinner alike.

So I should start listing all of the abortion clinics that have been attacked by christian religious extreemists? What about gays that have been targeted by religious attacks? Religious extremeism is on both sides of this fence. They just have different enemies.

They are....this is becoming eerily similar to WW1.

I have to think the Saudis are collectively sh*tting their pants at this moment. Iranians leading the charge to paradise. I would not be surprised if you find a backdoor agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia to take care of this problem.

The gulf states are unfortunately the next target. Israeli security is too damn good. Dubai has been viewed as a "moderate" muslim nation which probably means its going to be viewed as a heretic.
to back this up a little,.. "a 70 year old Italian nun shot in the back 3 times".
I really think we're well past the tipping point. We are long past "negotiation" and well into "inevitibility". Osama gets his wish...God help him when Israel launches off a few nukes towards Tehran and rural Pakistan.

Dudes, Sinead O'Connor received multiple death threats for that stunt. It was also career suicide.

But to the big picture, its nothing new. This has been going on for centuries.

Thanks for causin' another ruckus, Religion.

I voted no, and apparently I wasn't the only one or even in the minority.

Dudes, Sinead O'Connor... It was also career suicide.
I thought that was mostly due to a severe lack of quality material...

Friggin hell...here we go....
What I find funny is that the picture isn't from the article. So I could post images like this:
Oh jees sharkman, talk about petty...I posted a picture from my local cache since I don't like to friggin hotlink. Oh btw, unless you wanted a picutre that showed you too could win a million pounds...

The picture I linked to came from a similar story about protests in the street about the Pope. Don't believe me, here's my blog post which covered a humorous side of that picture. Original story is here

OK, now to the story at hand.
That's assuming our culture is better then theirs; and IMHO there isn't one culture that's better then another. There's no way to decide. Each different culture has different values, norms, etc.
Yes there is. If you honestly think a culture that...

a) Views women as things and not as people.
b) Discourages education except for studying the Quran.
c) Advocates violence and suicide as a means to get into paradise.

Is on par with our...or India's, or China's...or even the Aboriginies of Australia.....you have some serious issues to work through.
So I should start listing all of the abortion clinics that have been attacked by christian religious extreemists? What about gays that have been targeted by religious attacks? Religious extremeism is on both sides of this fence. They just have different enemies.
F*ck, we can go through each an every action that has been carried out "In The Name Of (insert deity here)". Now that we have a list...lets see who has been "more bad".

I really hate this argument of "oh Christian did bad things five hundered years ago, so we have nothing to talk about" which is a load of sh*t. I smoked a bunch of dope and drank well before I was 21. Doesn't mean that I can't tell my kids not to do it. It's the same friggin argument. There's a vast difference between "learning from your past" and "living in your past". Radical Islam and a number of religophobes are carrying out the latter.

There is no problem with calling "evil"...well..."evil". We know what bad thins are, yes they have our own cultural perspective on it; but bottom line is we and many other cultures on this planet value certain things...

Life.
Liberty.

If you honestly think that a culture that does not value those two ideals is on par with our, I highly suggest you ask those people what they think of their native culture. And then please explain why teenagers are running away from those cultures in droves, especially in countries that are in the areas that I am mentioning.

Oh, in parting...Sinead. Was not the brightest career move in performing that little stunt, but I would also put it in the same sense as a certain British performer playing a certain song which had an unfavorable view of the audio broadcasting world on the same show... I don't think anyone outside radical Christianity really wanted her dead, and those that did need to have some serious re-evaluation of their spiritual side.

Just like the Dixie Chicks...

It's wise not to piss off your fan base. And if you can equate "album sales" to "real, valid, something to be worried about, death threats"...

That's not the argument, what did Bush launch three years ago in the name of his God? It still happens.

All I'm saying is it's misleading to the reader.
Yes there is. If you honestly think a culture that...

a) Views women as things and not as people.
b) Discourages education except for studying the Quran.
c) Advocates violence and suicide as a means to get into paradise.

I never said to par; I said it's impossible to judge.

Every culture has it's problems. Look at America's predesposition to violence or our lust for celebrity and money. Our 'freedoms' that are limited by laws.

So which culture is worse? Is there a scale to judge cultures by? If so I'd love to see it.
