Liquid Magazine - HELP WANTED!

Post by FINNCADE »

After a 4 year hiatus I have decided to start publishing Liquid Magazine again. Most of the people in Fort Wayne may not know about this publication. It was on the streets from 1997 to 2002, and was distributed monthly from Warsaw, IN to St. Joe, MI. 12,000 copies a month, tabloid size, full color cover, 20/24 pages and available at about 300 distribution points.

With this rebirth, the distribution will now spread out to cover even more places from South Bend to Fort Wayne to Grand Rapids, and all points of interest in between.

What I am looking for are people for the following positions:
1. Regional Account Manager. This is a commission based paid position. We need someone with a background in sales, or at least very familiar with the music/arts related businesses owners in the greater Fort Wayne area.
2. Fort Wayne writers. These positions are non-paying. These positions would be good for a college student who may be working on an english degree, or just someone who has a passion for writing and loves music. The position would intail doing unbiased live show reviews, local/national bands who are playing in Fort Wayne (we will help set it up), and ocassional CD reviews.
3. Fort Wayne Beat reporter. This position would be for someone who knows the Fort Wayne scene better than anyone else. Let all of our readers know what's going on in your area. What bands are making waves, lending a hand for a needy cause, and just anything newsworthy.
4. Delivery driver. We are looking for a local band for this position. We have the distribution list already set up. You just deliver the magazine to the businesses and we pay you with free advertising in the publication. Get the word that your band rocks to people outside of the Fort Wayne area. An entire new market for your band.

If anyone is interested in any of these positions, please get in touch with me by email at LiquidMagazine@sbcglobal.net. The publication will hit the streets this September, starting off with 17,000 copies a month and 24 pages, in the same format as before.

Thanks,
Bill Finn / publisher

PS - Here is the distribution points that I have in Fort Wayne. Please take a look at it and let me know if there are places not even worth hitting (we are looking for high traffic areas), and also inform me of places I have missed that should be added.

Does anyone have an old copy of this zine or more info on it?

I've only been in the Fort 2 years, so it's before my time.

I'm pretty sure it was originally more so a South Bend publication ... focusing on hardcore stuff if I remember correctly.

Which I don't.

Liquid Magazine was based out of the South Bend area. It was very influential in opening doors for original musicians in this area. Before 1997, this are was dominated by cover bands. Now, every club in town welcomes original music.

I would be happy to mail you a copy of the magazine, if you would like. Just send me your home address. It was laid out very nicely with the latest versions of Quark and Photoshop. We covered most every genre of music in every issue, but liked to do special feature issues focusing on one certain genre every once in a while.

This is not some Kinko's cut and paste zine, although those can be great as well. This is comparable to what WhatzUp has to offer except we will focus about 80% on original music of all genres in the area. The other 20% will be arts oriented.

B# Guitars gets a ton of traffic. Might want to contact them too.

Is the regional account manager commission plus base salary or strictly commission? What kind of income potential do you see?

Not at the moment. We have Jason Fowler (Fowler Graphics, smoking-cat.com) doing the graphics/layout. We have a few people (graphics students) who are wanting to do some ad design (just for experience), as well.

I really like your work and hopefully we can work together in the near future.

Do you have an address or phone number for B# Guitars? I can't seem to find anything on the internet about them.

The Regional Account Mgr. position is strictly commission at this point. The person taking this job in the Fort Wayne area would be the only person allowed to sell ads for us in that area. Earning potential could be huge. The prices are affordable. We are hitting most every place that WhatzUp hits + going to South Bend, Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids. That will help sell ads to people who are wanting to reach people out of the direct area.
