Wayne-Calhoun Concert Series - June 9th - GO TO THIS!

Post by jewlee138 »

Matt Kelley mentioned the kick-off for this concert series in an earlier thread, but I wanted to explain what's up with the Battle of the Bands event on June 9.

There will be outdoor staging at one end of Calhoun, with the street closed off block-party style between Berry & Wayne. At this point, my job is to find 4 bands that would like to participate in the Battle of the Bands. (I know, it'll be hard to narrow it down to just four, but it's more like a concert where people vote for which bands gets the most cash). Basically, each band will have 45 min. sets and play for $1,100 in prize money.

We're also working to open the former Julian's this evening especially for the event to serve pizza & Mad Anthony Beer, etc. The owner is also willing to open the upstairs as an Art Gallery w/ acoustic music &/or spoken word if anyone is interested in displaying their art or music, words, etc.

I'm the contact, so if you're interested in getting involved in the Battle of the Bands, showing your art or volunteering you can PM me here or reach me at jewlee138@hotmail.com

@ Al (kimaliz) & HDM:

So, now you're being nice to me....funny how that works.

Just kidding

I'm not sure that Action Jaxson or Pleasing Melani fit with the vibe this series is going for, however I passed along that both your bands were interested.

Ultimately, it's a committee desicion, I'm just gathering suggestions. I've heard PM & AJ play and am working on some other things that might fit your sound better if you don't make it into this one. The committee meets tonight, so hopefully the line-up will be solidified then.

Hell, for $500, I will stand on stage in a diaper, stomping my foot and reciting the National Anthem while rubbing margarine all over my chest.
