Ding Dong, The Witch is Gone...

Post by bassjones »

Bye, Bye John!!!! Go crawl in a hole you dictatorial weasel! Those commercials were the final straw. NOBODY I know of wants to the smoking ban overturned as it relates to family restaurants, yet that's where you shot your misleading "It's for the children" commercial. The problem is when you ban a LEGAL activity in establishments ONLY frequented by those over 21 years of age.

"He was looking kind of dumb with his finger and his thumb in the shape of 'L' on his forehead..." BITE ME!

It's LEGAL to drink.....does that make it ok to drive drunk? Should people be required to buckle children in their seats when riding in a car? Or, is that too much intervention? Safe working environment laws? Is that too much intervention? Certain laws are put into place to protect people.

I was playing at Henry's one night & it was so damn smoky that I started to choke in the middle of a song & ran out the back door & puked........But, I guess it was my problem - if I wanted to make a living making music, I just had to deal with it. Why should I be penalized for someone who has a nicotine addiction? Seriously?

At least Crawford had the balls to do something that wasn't the popular choice....he felt strongly about something & stuck to his belief. Not a "yes-man".......the last thing we need is a city council full of "yes-men/ women"......Like him or not, diversity is good - for that reason, I think it was a huge loss.

I can respect your opinion. I personally enjoy not dealing with the smoke when I play out or go out as well.

I am philosophically opposed to government nannyism of any kind, in any form, at any time - from food stamps to seatbelt laws. I'm a big boy, let me decide. Let me fend for myself. I don't want your handouts (that you forcibly removed from someone else's hand), and I don't need you to make the bad people stop smoking in my favorite bar. I don't need you to tell me to wear my seatbelt or my helmet, and I don't need you to feed my child while she is at school. I am a grown man and I can make my own choices whether you feel they are wise or not. I can send her to school with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at least. Note to government, please get the hell out of my life and out of my wallet. Your presence is not needed nor is it appreciated.

Brad, I totally agree with you and your opinion on a lot of different levels........Unfortunately, people get penalized because of the lack of common sense or judgement of others.......for better or for worse - that's part of the reason why we have laws. The irresponsible parents out there who killed an entire carload of kids because they weren't buckled up, the alchoholic who drove into a downtown building & killed some patrons of a restaurant....examples like that are why we have laws.

Yes, you are a grown, responsible man.......but, not everyone else out there is. It's really kind of a shame when you think about it.

I was never in a car seat. I never wore a helmet on my bike. At least one of my dad's cars growing up didn't even have seatbelts. I rode in the front seat. When we let them in our cars, we're close to letting them in our homes. Drunk driving is another thing all together. That is endangerment. Drive drunk, go to jail. The more responsibility for choices the government assumes for us, the more responsibility for our welfare we let the government assume for us, the less freedom we have. Freedom = responsibility, both taking it and living up to it. The less responsible we are, the less freedom we have.

As much as I agree he is not well liked for the fact that he had a major hand in the smoking ordinance I also believe that the REAL issue that lead to his dismissal was Harrison Square.

It was real interesting to hear him say last night on TV that though he was doing what the 'people want' when he voted in favor of the project that he was quite aware that more than 70% of the 'people' didn't actually WANT it...

I think that was ultimately the nail in his coffin. That miserable failure resulted in the loss of a seat to several people last night...good to see. I think the people are starting to speak loud and clear about what they want.

Well, the few people that actually vote, yeah, they are speaking loud and clear. I don't know what the voting population for this area is, but looking at the number of ballots in after 97% of the districts were counted...I'm thinking it looks like less than 10% of people eligible to vote actually did...

With that, I'd say that the city gets what it gets, and everyone else should just STFU...

I kind of take issue with this. First, drinking and operating a vehicle while intoxicated are two completely different things which is why there is a BAL limit set in law. It's not even comparable to the smoking issue.

Next, with child seats, you're talking about minors who are not capable of making their own safe decisions and these laws are in place to ensure that some idiot parents are handling the rights of those incapable of making the appropriate choices.

With regards to environment, I don't even want to talk about this. It's more than apparent that you've never really worked in a bad environment. I have. I spent three and a half years in a foundry that recycled aluminum scrap. The smoke, dust, and particulate intake there was ten times worse than anything you'd see in a bar and it was ALL LEGAL and regulated by the EPA and tested regularly. Spend a week in a truly dangerous environment, then talk to me later.

I, due to sleep deprivation, did not vote and I regret it. I wanted to.
There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those who understand binary. . .

. . .and those who don't.
