SMOKING BAN---BARS and Legions NEED YOUR HELP!

Bars and Restaurants and LEGIONS STILL NEED HELP!

Tonight was a meeting, yet again of bar and restaurant owners who are STILL mad as HELL about the government tyranny called the Smoking Ban in Fort Wayne.

Pictured on our site are two Libertarian candidates for City Council--Jon Bartels in the foreground and Doug Horner to the back. Many Libertarians showed up to listen to the people whose lives are being destroyed by the current city councilmen from the traditional political parties and to report to them what we are doing to help. They are mad STILL.

The meeting, held at Piere's, was mainly led by a man from Indianapolis who represented the bars statewide and made promises of getting an amendment to the ban.

This wasn't unlike the meetings previously---lots of people yelling and two current city councilmen standing up there trying to say "we did the best we could." Credit given to Tom Didier who did say something needed to change about it.

I stood in front of the crowd on stage and told the people what WE have been doing since February to change the way government is run in the city of Fort Wayne and why WE ARE GOING TO CHANGE THE WAY SMALL BUSINESSES ARE TREATED!

1) WE SLATED 8 CANDIDATES for them to finally have on the ballot for City Council in Fort Wayne.
2) We post, we blog, we reachout to the community to let them know what is happening.
3) We list their businesses on our website and are trying to drive business BACK to the BARS to help keep them open because we have something to fight for-our freedom!
4) We are planning benefit concerts to GET THESE BARS BACK OPEN and STAY OPEN.

Did you know at least 5 bars have already closed? Did you know MORE ARE GOING TO???

What can YOU do?
Show up to the City Council Meeting tomorrow at 5:30 at the City/County building.
Show up to the next City Council meeting next Tuesday.
GO to the bars listed on our web page (www.allencountylp.org) and tell them you support their right to be open!
Come to the next meeting of the owners at Piere's on Wednesday July 25 at 7:00.
MOST OF ALL: SUPPORT THE CANDIDATES WE HAVE WHO ARE GOING TO CHANGE THE WAY GOVERNMENT WORKS FOR THE PEOPLE--volunteer, donate, learn that YOU HAVE CHOICES NOW!

I will post about our next meeting place and time shortly.

The crowd was told the following closed:

Elco Tap
Chaps
Northwood Inn
Knockouts
One other..... I need to double check the names, our Vice Chair Jon Bartels was taking the notes.

I was told by many other restaurants and Legions they wouldn't last another 3 months.

Note--Gateway Inn has a sign closed, as well, I am told.

Chicago, Bloomington, Cincinnati, Syracuse (NY) and New York City are all cities that I know off the top of my head that have passed the same ban either recently or some time ago...the ban has yet to disappear in any of the cities and people eventually give up on complaining. In a few months the same thing will happen here. People will slide outside, and it will become habit.

Besides, those bar owners and everyone else bigger things to worry about, like, GLOBAL WARMING destroying their place. haha. ;)

The only reason some stop complaining is because they are out of business. These are the people outside smoking complaining.. these are the OWNERS and WORKERS who are getting the shaft. The outside people will complain more when it gets cold and word catches on that they are getting arrested more and more for Public Intox everytime they step outside.

Many people in government roles want you to stop complaining so they get their way.

This affects us as well. What do you think they're dropping first when business goes down? That's right, live music! Green Frog is already down to one performer once a month, and more are soon to follow suit.

The problem with all those other examples is they're big cities and they don't have small communities like New Haven less than 5 minutes drive away that still allow smoking in bars.

Even that's not the point though. This is their privately owned and operated business. What the hell right does John Crawford and his cronies have to tell them how to run their business? Smoking is LEGAL. The evidence for second hand smoke causing problems has been strongly disputed by at least one study - UCLA, not some backwoods hick study.

And this ban came from the "small government"   party, mostly. This sealed my permanent switch to the Libertarian party. Other than the official party position on abortion, I'm 100% on board.

LEAVE PEOPLE ALONE! LEAVE PEOPLE'S MONEY ALONE! LEAVE PEOPLE'S BUSINESSES ALONE!

You are SOOO right!!!

And as far as any particular stance goes, our local Libertarian Party's platform only contains items which we can control in Allen County.

If you notice, few people subscribe in entirety to the entire national platform of any party.

We are trying to make a difference here at home.

I've taken to writing one in if there's not one on the ballot. '08 presidential race I'm considering a write in vote for "None of the above" or maybe just writing in my own name as a sort of protest vote.

Hillary or Rudy G.... hmmm.... pass?

There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those who understand binary. . .

Duncan Hunter or bust! The more I see of Thompson, the less impressed I become. Hunter's very conservative fiscally. He's also a social conservative, but not obsessively so. Staunchly pro-life - which I am as well, and is my only real point of contention with the Libertarians.
