After 15 years in retirement....

Post by Silencio »

... I, your humble narrator Jim Bordner, am doing what I figured I'd never do... picking up my guitar to gig again.

I'm forming a duo with Shelly Dixon, who is looking to explore a softer and more musical side of her considerable talent as a singer. Much of what we're going to do will be just one jumbo acoustic and one voice (with some backup harmony), but she'll be picking up her Adamas to play rhythm on some tunes, which will free me to do some mellow Stratocaster stuff.

So far, the plan is to play select covers, maybe some of her songs, and to write some new songs together.

We'll see how it develops, but for now, we're both fairly excited to be working together. We have a couple of private party gigs (we're thinking of them as a sort of dry run) in December, and should be hitting the lounges early next year, if not sooner.

Wish us luck.

Thanks, guys. I think it's going to be a nice thing. Shelly's a good singer, and this will allow me to explore my solo playing with a bit more concentration than I could give it playing alone.

Wow, I hope things work out for you and shelly! Keep me posted I would love to see Shelly singing again. I miss playing in a band with her I had some good times in SDB.

Shouldn't this have been typed in all caps with considerably more misspellings and IM speak?

We'll be carefully considering whether or not to well and truly rawk. If we end up rawking, you'll get the call.

Lou B., I enjoyed "Drive." I know Shelly's (rightfully) proud of the accomplishment... when you see her listed in Whatz Up one of these days, come out and listen.

We had our first "rehearsal" yesterday afternoon... throwing out song ideas, playing them, singing together, putting together a real list... and I am feeling real good about it. I'm figuring out solo guitar arrangements of two or three of Shelly's songs from "Drive," we discovered a mutual love of the Bangles and chose an obscure tune by them, some Bonnie Raitt, taking a Cassandra Wilson approach to a couple of classic rock chestnuts, and you'll enjoy hearing her sing "Blackbird," I'll betcha.

A pretty productive couple of hours... so far, so fun.

Lou, she spoke well of you and appreciated your post. See ya 'round the Funway!
