(Fort Wayne--WANE) The Allen County Commissioners passed a county wide smoking ordinance Wednesday morning that's not as restrictive as the one originally proposed. Smoking will be prohibited in most public places, but you'll still be able to light up in a bar.
The ordinance, which takes effect January 1, would permit smoking in bars. Bowling alleys can allow smoking Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m., however smoking won't be allowed at all on Friday and Saturday. Restaurants that have bar areas where smoking is allowed will have to become smoke free.
Originally, the proposed ordinance would have banned people from lighting up at all in places like bars, restaurants and bowling alleys, but it gave cities and towns the chance to opt out. Commissioners introduced the measure in late August. That's still the case, so Fort Wayne City Council would have to vote to opt out of the county ordinance or add other exemptions. Right now smoking is allowed in bars and bowling alleys, however restaurants must have a separate enclosed smoking area if people want to light up.

Someone needs to find a valid first amendment argument for smoking and squash this sh*t.
I don't smoke.
Can't stand smoke.
Yet, it's someone else's choice whether or not to smoke. It's my choice whether or not to go to a place where smoking might be happening. The government should only be able to police smoking in government owned properties, not private or corporate businesses.
oh forking great. honestly one of the reasons I want to move home is that there is nowhere here in florida that you can sit and have a cup of coffee that isnt a bar.
so what? now I cannot go to halls???? i have been going there for 9 years religiously so smoke drink coffee, write, draw, etc.
not exactly related to the county-wide ban, but....
are you aware that all of the hospitals are going "smoke-free" this spring?
for the most part it is fully justified and reasonable, as it is the healthcare industry setting a precedent geared toward a community health initiative.
but what would/will you do when it is you, as a smoker, looking to rely upon your coping mechanism while dealing with an ill loved one?
what do you think of employees having this decision forced upon them?

first, "pee-cleaner to pass the whiz-quiz" is really, really funny..
second, it's not quite that strict. employees are only banned from smoking on the campuses, as is anyone. that's the rub, you can't smoke anywhere on campus- even in your personal vehicle.....

Bummer.
I'd still smoke in my car though. If the old security guy wants to walk over and bust my ass I'm more then willing to pay the ticket; or put it out.
...or if at St. Joe I'd just walk to a public sidewalk.

I rather like that smoking was banned in Bloomington bars. I actually like having a drink without reeking of smoke 20 minutes later.
People smoking in the street, in their cars, in their homes, etc, doesn't bother me. Having to be in an enclosed space with smokers does.
Actually, I once was fired from a job due to me telling the manager not to smoke next to me when I was on the phone with a customer. He got pissed and fired me. Thus I tipped the fire department off that the company was allowing smoking in their office. I believe they got a fat fine after that incident. Assholes...
first a few years ago all those restaurants in fw invested money into building fully enclosed seperate smoking sections and now they're gonna have to tear em down. so they invested probably a thousand dollars or so, and now they're getting screwed out of that. thats not fair.
and ayways whats the problem with fully enclosed seperate smoking sections? are people really so anal that they cant even stand that?
when i go to IHOP at 3 AM all drunk I'm gonna wanna smoke damnit
