Coach Sampson. How much time does he have left?

How long till he's gone? I'm not even an Indiana fan, but the guy's got to go.

he would have been anyway. Wonder if Fife is on the list of potential replacements. Probably not ready quite yet, but the IU fans want a return to the Knight days and Fife is a great young coach who hails from that era, albeit the end of that era.

Knight may be interested...I mean, without Myles Brand at IU, it might not be too far-fetched.

maybe he saw the writing on the wall and that's why he retired/resigned at Texas Tech... Conspiracy theory. He comes back for the rest of the year after Sampson is fired, leads them to a National Championship and retires for good, riding out wearing an Indiana Crimson sweater as a National Champion coach at IU for his final season...

yes, he is, but he's also the best coach that's not currently coaching should they fire Sampson at this point of the season.

Considering it's nothing for coaches to leave in the midst of contracts, there are infinite better options than Knight. What makes you think they wouldn't go the traditional route, have the assistant coach close out the season and find a replacement for next season? It's not like it's going to hurt recruiting (considering the scholarships and tournament eligibility IU stands to lose).

For one, the assistants were part of the problem. If Sampson goes, they all go. I wouldn't be surprised if Dane Fife isn't at least interviewed. Honestly, I don't think there's much chance at all of Knight coming back, but I wouldn't be all that shocked if it happens either.

Reports are surfacing saying Calvin Sampson is DONE.

[quote]Sampson out at IU, station says
Dakich to coach for rest of year, according to report

Indiana University coach Kelvin Sampson has coached his last game for the Hoosiers, Indianapolis TV station WTHR reported Thursday.

Assistant coach Dan Dakich will take over as interim coach for the rest of the season, the station said.

The station said in its report that a source close to the situation said IU officials met with Dakich about the change.

The NCAA has accused Sampson and some members of his staff of five major recruiting violations regarding telephone calls to high school players. The university is reviewing the allegations and has set a Friday deadline for a report and recommendation on action.

Trustee Philip Eskew Jr. told the Associated Press that he had been notified by e-mail that Indiana would have an announcement on Sampson’s status Friday, but he did not have further details.

WTHR also reported that according to its unnamed source, Sampson and the university will reach a financial settlement by Friday afternoon ending his employment, or he will be suspended pending termination under the terms of his contract.

IU spokesman Larry MacIntyre declined to comment on the TV report.

“I don’t have any knowledge on that,â€
