Bass Player needed to Record - MUST BE EXPERIENCED

Post by creativesoundimagesdotcom »

Hey!

I own a studio North West of Fort Wayne and am looking to record a song just for fun....so, this is not a 'paying' session. It's an older song that will require a hot bass player - so if you're new at playing or worse, recording please don't waste the time :) . The song is Gary Wright's 'Love is Alive' - now, the tune may not be up some peoples alley but I am looking to bring this up and 'modernize' it with a more rock/funky groove. If you are interested I can send you an mp3 of the tune so you can at least hear it even thought we will be doing it slightly different.

So if you're into tracking your stuff give me a call or email me and we can talk more about it.

Wanted experienced pro to work for free... all the experienced pros willing to do so - other than as a HUGE favor for someone you really respect and want to help out - cancer benefit, that sort of thing - raise your hand... still looking.... no one???? That's kind of what I thought.

'modernize' it with a more rock/funky groove
I don't think it can get any funkier. It's pure sonic genius as it stands. Leave it alone.

It can always be more funky....regardless what we're talking about. Good luck in your search!

You are all correct. I suppose I am being naive in looking for someone that simply loves to play and would enjoy recording 'just for fun' and the pure enjoyment of it.

A few questions...

What is this project for? Why are you recording it?

You are soliciting for help with this project... from people who don't know you. You made it clear that there was no money in it and it was serving your purposes.

I can understand a "no-profit" project, but don't you think a person's time, travel, gas, expenses and hauling their stuff is not worth anything?

Especially when you DEMAND professional players?

I think a more humble approach would have netted you some solid replies.

"Hey guys, I am working on a project and need some help. While I prefer someone with experience, let me know what you are capable of and lets see if we can make it work.

I cannot afford typical studio rates for professional players, but I will gladly pay you out of pocket for your gas, maybe fix a nice lunch and grab a case of beer for your time?"

Musicians play for the fun of it when it serves *their* purpose, not yours.

There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those who understand binary. . .

. . .and those who don't.

furthermore, you certainly make it seem like you own/operate a professional recording studio. Yet, you're asking professional musicians to come work for free. If you were a general contractor would you call ABC Drywall and ask them to drywall a room in your office for free? I hope not. Now, would you call a friend who is a professional drywaller for advice or even ask him to come help you out for a day - offering to do something for him in return? More likely for sure.

Come on guys, let's not be elitists or pricks. There very well could be someone out there who's not opposed to picking this project up. Hell, I'm tempted to do it just to shut you guys up!
Per usual, I'm not in disagreement with you Ollie or you Brad, but it's hard enuff to find musicians in this town w/out being discouraged by hecklers. I don't know the dude, but lets support Cary in finding his bassist and keep the replies constructive, eh?

I thought I offered up sincere input.

Okay...maybe a little heckling.

Lets turn the tables then...

I am sure there are MANY musicians on this board who would love to record their stuff and can't afford it.

Is it safe to assume that creativesoundimagesdotcom will do it no charge just for the fun of it all?

Cmon man, you LOVE recording and mixing...do it for free.

Cale, you're probably right... I just thought it was poorly worded.

@ Ollie and the OP, That is a brilliant idea. I will do this for free IF you agree to record a short demo for my band for free, and if you'll guarantee me at least one paying session IF you're satisfied with my work on this song, that will sweeten the pot even more. And yes, that is a very serious offer.

Nah. Cale's cool. He was probably right. I've been in a foul mood about playing freebies and the reduced rate of pay around town lately. Probably took it out on the wrong guy.
