Especially considering the movie got bad reviews from most professional reviewers and the box office take wouldn't have been nearly so high if not for the protesors.

Anyone here old enough to remember "The Last Temptation"? I went and saw it in the theatre. Walked right by a bunch of protestors from my church too. I thought that was a great movie, and I never could figure out what the controversy was about. The bible says Christ was tempted in every way that man is tempted. What is every man's greatest temptation? Sex! Why wouldn't his last temptation be to come down off the cross, take Mary as his wife and live here as a man????

Anyway, I thought that one was well done. I probably won't go see DaVinci Code because it just doesn't interest me very much.

I hereby proclaim all the hoopla to have reached absolute absurdity. In the checkout line at the grocery store I noticed a magazine touting The Da Vinci Code Diet.

That's awesome. Too bad it's all fiction. :)

Actually I'm so sick of hearing the words "remember, it's just fiction" that I want to punch people. And I've never punched anyone. I was thinking about this the other day and I realized that yes, a good amount of this book may be fiction (whether it is or not has yet to be totally proven in my eyes), yet there are a few rather important non-fictional aspects to the book. A lot of the things about symbolism and the origins of some of the stories in Christianity and where they originated from were rather interesting to me.

It's the same with movies like Farenheit 9/11. Even if only a few of the ideas put forth by Moore are true, they're still horrible. I watched Farenhype 9/11 just to hear the other side, and they ripped apart quite a few of the arguments that Moore put together. But not all of them. Some they didn't even try to touch...

Ok, I have not seen the movie or read the book yet so if my post seems ignorant please don't bash me too hard.

From all the hoopla I've heard the main problem people have with this is it portrays Jesus as having been married and produced offspring. I'm still not sure why this is so controversial. From what I recollect, the bible doesn't mention this happened but also never mentioned anything to the contrary (sorta like extraterrestial life). Why then is this such a problem for so many people? The bible states that Jesus was a man while on earth. As far as I understand, it is not a sin for a man to marry and procreate. Therefor, it would not have been a sin for Jesus either, thus, he could still retain his divine status. Or, is sex just a sin all the way around?

To the many out there with more biblical knowledge than me, I would love to have some insight into this.

I'm the reverse, I'm tired of people who take it way too seriously (i.e. believe absolutely everything in it as pure fact).

I don't get that, either. There's 18 missing years and I doubt he spent it in solitary confinement.

I fail to see the problem with giving more power to women, but perhaps I'm biased on that. The Church's stance on women being below men has always pissed me off to no end.

That's not the biblically correct stance. Men and women have different roles in the church, but they're both equal. Unfortunately, that's not the way it has been portrayed by many in the church, but Jesus and Paul's words on the subject clearly treat them as equals, just having differing roles.

I've always speculated the reason there are no women in postions of power in the church is because women have a closer connection to god.

Ergo in a scheme to 'keep the power' men made a rule that onle men can be priests (and the pope) in order to hold on to some of that political power.

That's just my crazy logic though.
