Students and Mental Health Issues

Post by KirstenPike »

Students that suffer from mental health problems tend to face negative reactions from their teachers as well. Research states that one young person in every ten would have mental health issues in a year. Teachers must focus on this area and respectfully treat students. It is believed that teachers usually have difficulties in starting such a conversation as they believe it is a sensitive issue and they become awkward while discussing it.

Students that are constantly under pressure from their teachers are not able to focus on their academic studies. This leads to students trying to get their homework done from outside, by using a professional writing service. The student would just need to request them to “write my essay” and that would be it. A student suffering from mental health troubles would opt for ways that would help him ease the issues from his mind.

To deal with students that are suffering mental health issues, teachers should understand the specific approach that is required in dealing with them. The first step is to talk to the student and probe him to open up about the troubles he is facing. This would lead him to become relaxed while describing the trouble he is having. The next step would be the talk of positive aspects. The teacher should talk about any area that would reinforce positivity. The students should be reassured that they have nothing to worry about. They should be provided with a positive environment. Lastly, the teachers should make certain that they are patient with the students. There is no point in being harsh with the students as they are already having mental health issues, and the harsh behaviour could make it worse. Students with mental health issues should be treated with care.
