Um, this is beyond words. This dude is a pure shredder.

Despite your opinions on GH, you have to admit this dude has the juice.

Enjoy.

My only gripe with Guitar Hero is that if these guys put that much effort into a real guitar they would actually have a skill when all is said and done rather than just being really good at a video game. If that was my kid I'd buy him a Les Paul instead of an X-box. Plus...you get more babes with a real guitar as opposed to a guitar controller.
But that's just me.

Honestly, I would say no, on the effort. In a matter of, let's say, 5 days, I can learn how to "play" 30+ guitar hero songs...there's no way that I could learn that many real songs, in that short of a period, so anyone that says there is a lot of effort that goes into it, really hasn't played the game.

I haven't played real guitar in at least 6 or 7 years, yet I can pickup GH and "shred" away in Hard and Expert mode like I have been playing for decades...and honestly, I'm not even that good.

The only thing that is similar to playing a real guitar is the coordination, strumming and keeping rhythm...IMO playing a real guitar is a LOT harder and takes at least 10 times more effort (as well as practice time) than playing these games...

That too.

I just think the few "haters" around here don't realize how little time it really takes to get good at this video game...and I am tired of the "go learn to play a real guitar" mantra.

I know how to play a real guitar, but without a band (and not looking to be in one again), I have more fun playing guitar hero...

Well, let's apply this to other games:

God of War: Go learn how to upset pantheons of gods to rule the universe.

Hitman: Go learn how to be a professional assassin.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Go learn how to be a blue haired speed demon and collect coins as a hobby.

Mario: Go learn how to fight turtles, stomp mushrooms, and avoid giant bullets while trouncing through sewer pipes since you're really a plumber in the first place.

No one makes these arguments.

I can tell you that it takes about two weeks to get as good at Guitar Hero as it takes one year to get good at real guitar. The two just aren't comparable at all.

I think of GH like I think of marijuana, it's a gateway activity. I'll bet that a lot of people end up picking up a real guitar because of loving this game. How great is that? To see this much effort being put into music appreciation or participation says a lot about how our culture is changing. I'm glad to see games like this, Rock Band, DDR, Karaoke Hero, and others in the market because it encourages musical interaction.

Garr: Just because I know you're a stickler for such things.... Three of your four Einstein quotes are misattributed. Only "Imagination is more important than knowledge" can be attributed to him.

I remember when Grand Theft Auto 3 came out, I played the sh*t out of that game, but then one day it hit me. If I could apply myself as much in the real world as in the video game, I could make a living stealing cars, killing prostitutes and robbing people.

You know what? It is working out pretty well...

Swallow the BLUE pill – Learn Guitar Hero, and stay plugged into the Matrix. . . .

Like I said, let's develop a game for every worthwhile human endeavor that takes work and skill. There will be less competition for jobs that way.

So, because one might not use a brush and canvas, one can't be an artist?

I guess I'm just not a big game person. I did read an article that said the developers of the game we're surprised at it's popularity due to the fact that the music is mostly classic rock. So...from a music appreciation standpoint it's kind of cool.

I see your guy's point, I still hate the game though, but I'm a bass player and I can learn all the songs on guitar hero faster with my bass than I can playing the game, I've done it to prove a friend wrong before.

As demonstrated by it's poor sales, lack of market share, and fact that no one is making copycat games.
