Old School MAC/Protools setup

I'm thinking of getting an older MAC G4 (under $100 on ebay) with 1G of RAM and a Digi001 LE system (around $200 on ebay). Nice little 24-track digital studio for recording. Not the latest or greatest, but should do the trick quite nicely for around $300. Anybody got any experience with this type of rig?

Lots of Mac G4 experience, but no Digi001... I was a ProTools Session 8 user back in the day, but I've been using MOTU interfaces for a long time.

Should be a pretty decent on the cheap system though don't you think? Good enough to record a 5 piece band. I'm working on some arrangements for an album of jazzy hymns with fretless bass as the lead voice on most of it too. This should be plenty of system for something like that too.

Oh, yeah, plenty good. I ran my whole studio from a G4 until a couple years ago when I bought my current dual G5, and 16 tracks plus MIDI tracks was no sweat, even with plug-ins all over.
If you want 24 tracks, you'll probably end up doing some plug-in management (printing effects to disc, for example, or bouncing or submixing drums or background vocal groups to free up tracks.
But my G4 was a great machine for years... most of the work on my current demo was recorded on it.

gotta learn somewhere. I got outbid at the last second by a professional ebayer/computer reseller, so I'm still on the lookout for a Mac.
