The Beatles Love Album

Post by MrSpall »

Anyone else bought this? I was listening to the other night, and have to say it's pretty incredible the way they mixed all of the old recordings. Apparently Martin was told he couldn't record anything new, speed or slow down anything, or reverse anything. He just took different old recordings and layered them. It's particularly evident in the album's version of "Strawberry Fields" and "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite".

Pretty neat stuff.

Thoughts?

Got it as a gift. It's a nice mix-up.

I think it's interesting they had so much hoopla about 'the Grey Album' that was released; and then they turn around and release their own.

I'm enjoying it!

This one is "on the list" of things
to acquire. I'll be listening to further
feedback in the meantime.

Amazing how these guys STILL can
sell millions from stuff recorded 40 years ago.

Class!

Listening to this CD gave me chills. Hearing the Beatle's material remastered is like a dream come true. And the way he ties in some of the tunes was quite genius. There's a really neat version of "Strawberry Fields" that starts from the first version and builds up to the album version...very cool. "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is awesome, they're all awesome!
"My friend says he wants to die. He's in a band, they sound like Pearl Jam, the clothes are all black and the music is crap."

Ditto on the chills. Our first listen was a moving experience. "Love" is expertly done, and showcases three important things about the Beatles:

1. Their extraordinary spirit of experimentation.
2. Their remarkable vocal skills (no AutoTune on those tracks, baby!).
3. George Martin's contribution to the sound we call "Beatle."

Incredible to hear George's early demo of "While My Guitar" with the alternate lyric, breathtaking versions of "Yesterday" and "Revolution"... the whole thing just kills. Not to mention the fun of playing Beatles Jigsaw and figuring out where the parts came from!

The guys who hang out on the guitar forum I frequent all turned up thir classic-rock geezer noses at it. Whatta bunch of chumps!

You can hear a few full tracks here. While My Guitar Gently Weeps is one of my favs but listening to this treated demo version, I can see why George had a tough time getting John and Paul interested in recording it until he brought in Clapton. Interesting stuff. I love this version of Strawberry Fields, though. Ringo's drumming kicks ass. The version of Octopus's Garden is pretty tight, too. Lady Madonna mashed up w/ Hey Bulldog - sweet. I think I might have to pick this one up.

Check this out for a killer Beatles mash-up:
