Evan Dando's legendary band The Lemonheads will return with their long awaited eighth album on September 26th.
The self-titled 11 track release is the band's first in 10 years and features a guest appearance from Dinosaur Jr.'s J Mascis.
The band now features Dando, drummer Bill Stevenson and bassist Karl Alvarez.
In the ten years since the last record 'Car Button Cloth', Dando has released one solo LP, 2003's acclaimed 'Baby I'm Bored'.
Speaking about the new album Dando said: "I wanted to make a rock record, a melodic rock record. Also, I'm sick of selling solo T-shirts."
The first single to be lifted from the album will be 'Become The Enemy'.
The Lemonheads track listing is:
'Black Gown'
'Become The Enemy'
'Pittsburgh'
'Let's Just Laugh'
'Poughkeepsie'
'Rule of Three'
'No Backbone'
'Baby's Home'
'In Passing'
'Steve's Boy'
'December'

saw him a few yrs back at the patio ... what a dipsh i t
he went out of his way to lose the crowd by playing really obscure hank williams tunes and even more obscure bluegrass songs (i didnt mind any of it - i enjoyed the show for what it was and understood his prerogative ... he was a junkie afterall)
but it got really ugly right after he finally ended his set and went over to tear down his merch table - some guys had been standing there waiting to buy some shirts and when they realized that evan was ignoring them and boxing everything up they said something along the lines of - we were wondering if we could get some merch? is it too late? - they said it in a completely respectable tone - almost reverent
without warning dando sprung to his feet and pushed with the full force of both hands into this guys chest - sending him reeling back on his heels and into a group of people behind him
a verbal assault the likes ive not come close to hearing since began pouring outta dandos mouth - most people around the fracas were stunned and.or blushing from the display
it was not something i ever wish to see again

To paraphrase Henry Rollins on Mr. Dando:
"His songs all all 'I'm a guy and your a girl too...' and the panties from the audience come flying. Meanwhile I'm pouring my guts out only to be rejected by every woman under the sun. Don't get me wrong, I love his music, but I don't get it."
I've never really listened to Dando or the Lemonheads so I'll have to trust Sir Henry on this one.

if a woman had to choose between a big giant dude with no neck screaming about how hes a liar while painted in red
or
a dude that looks like their younger brothers druggie/hippie best friend singing about his big g a y heart and his long lost friend frank mills
well ... maybe thats not much of a choice afterall

Good news, I love the Lemonheads more rockin' numbers, and with it being a power trio now I'm sure we'll get some decent tunes. Oh yeah, I have to buy it because of Mascis' involvement.

I hold a very special place for "Car, Button, Cloth". But I'd love to see what a power trio may accomplish.

I love "If I Could Talk", I always liked the album, it was sugary sweet pop. It was better than anything Matthew Sweet was up to at the time.
