Clarification - new metal

Post by hahursey »

I'm a bit behind in musical genre terminology. Can someone please define "nu metal" for me? Possibly a few examples of artists?

Isn't "NU Metal" dead?

Please say yes, please say yes.

I think that nu-metal is pretty well dead. . .now you have metal (and it's endless subcats) and modern rock. Modern rock is like the label Alternative in the late 80's/early 90's. It's a catch all for new, radio-friendly, pop-like rock music.

i think people these days are leaning heavily towards the Alt-Country genre... I think that will be the craze.

Ah, I'm not really a fan of Korn. I've read a few posts here and a few other places that really take stabs at new metal as a genre. I personally find it hard to subcategorize rock music. I actually like music by some heavily aired bands which have received a bad stigma...you might call them new metal, or rock in my case.

Can anyone give examples of characteristics of new metal?

downtuned guitars, whispered to growled vocals, often times the vocals are done with rapping. alot of times the band members look like Juggalos, with weird spikey hairstyles and pants around their asses. I thought NU-metal was dead until i downloaded the new Bury Your Dead record and about sh*t my pants silly =O

Okay, thanks for clearing this up for me. It would appear that I was confusing new metal with the likes of modern rock. Like I said, I appreciate the music...was just a little behind/confused.

Thanks a Million! :D

And Alice in Chains was a huge King's X rip-off band. Probably the worst offender in that regard, and they never did give Ty, Doug and Jerry their proper respects for that either.
