Go reread my post...I didn't YELL...I SAID it...It was not more than a conversation voice...
I had to call someone I KNOW to the scene. Had I not KNOWN a person...I would have been arrested.
There are no BAD parts of Fort Wayne that a cop would be scared to enter...It was also broad daylight.
Why didn't they do the warrant check? Why did it take a supervisor to get the first two cops to do the right thing?
Why didn't they bust the crack house? You can watch the drugs being sold out of the houses in this town...the cops just ignore it. I have rentals on the south side...I see it all the time. I know some reasons for ignoring the problems with the drugs, but there comes a point that they can't always look the other way.
Maybe if they weren't wasting their time sitting at gas stations and intersections looking for people who make turns on a yellow arrow they would accomplish that goal of making this town a better place.
Until then it will continue to suck...
Chris

the cop in arlington neighborhood... if you know him, you most likely hate him. I am banned for life from arlington pool along with 3 friends. We picked a crab apple, and threw it down the hill. cop saw and drove up to us... we of course didn't see him a street over watching us. (we were in 7th grade) He quickly explained the laws we had broken. he described them as "felonies"
~trespassing... only one of us lived in the neighborhood.
~destruction of property..... an apple.
~littering... i thought this was a joke... i was wrong.
~vandalizing... he said some of the apple hit a car.... that WAS NOT there.
~theft... that apple did NOT belong to us.

i'm certainly no genius about anything, but ummm....maybe you should re-think who you rent houses to.cwallace wrote:I evicted someone from a house a little over a year ago. Her husband decided he was going to start threatening me for it.
He left messages that I should watch my back and even at one point siad he could kill me.
I ignored the BS and a week later was at the house they were evicted from working on stuff they broke.
He showed up across the street at a friends house and when I went out on the porch to cut some ceiling tiles he came out into the street screaming and yelling at me and then came up to the house and got in my face on the porch.
I told him to leave, turned around, called the desk Sargent and requested an officer.
I did EVERYTHING by the book. Didn't get mad, didn't yell back, just told him to leave and called the cops.
He went across the street and I continued with my work. When the cops got there he shut his mouth. They came up to me on the porch and asked me what the problem was. I explained the situation...informed them that he was on parole and even mentioned his warrant in Wells county (this was something I knew for a fact).
Before I tell the next part and HIS story I will tell you that he was about 6'5", not large, but built because he worked out a lot while he was in prison for 2 years. He was on parole from several drug violations that got him locked up. He also has a felony assault on his record, and had just been locked up a few months early for a probation violation when he beat his 14 yo daughter up real bad. He was also at that house that day buying drugs from a known crack dealer. They disappeared REAL quick when the cops came driving up...not even wanting to stick around to give a story. So that is a summary of WHO I was dealing with in the situation.
So anyway, the cop took my information and then went across the street to 'talk' to him. He immediately came up to the cop and started this story about how he was here visiting a friend and when I saw him I ran across the street and started yelling at him about calling my house and making threats. He then went on to say that he went inside because he felt threatened and he only came out when he saw the cops pull up (remember he was sitting on the porch in front of a house that was locked up and appeared to be empty...and the cops saw him sitting there.).
I was right across the street and was listening to this VERY outrageous story. I said, just loud enough that the cop would hear, and not in any irrate or screaming fashion...just a STATEMENT, 'That is a bold faced lie'. That was the end of that 'nice' situation. The other cop got out of the car came up to me and attempted to arrest me for 'disturbing the peace'. I stepped back and wasn't having ANYTHING to do with that sh*t. I walked back up to the porch and into the house...with the cop right behind me. I closed the door behind me leaving him outside and called the desk sargent AGAIN and this time asked for a certain officer by name.
Minutes later another car pulled up...not the one I was calling for, but another one that is close with him. I came back out on the porch gave him pretty much the same story that I am typing here. He went over and had a quick 'talk' with the officer who wanted to arrest me and then came back an apologized.
They told dude to leave and if they saw him back over here they would arrest him for trespassing.
So again...what purpose do they serve? Had I not made the second call to someone that I know I would have been taken to jail. It isn't that they are ALL bad...there are just too damn many...and a lot of them are more crooked than the people they are supposed to be going after.
Things just need to change if this town wants to prosper. They can't keep us living in a police state...people will leave or at least NOT stick around.
Chris

They're not allowed to. To bust a crack house/meth house/drug house they have to identify it as a potential drug house, file paperwork with a judge, wait for approval, make "several" buys over a matter of "weeks", then file that evidence with the same judge, who may or may not approve an arrest warrant/search warrant. - gee, I wonder why Homeland Security is trying to avoid this level of red tape??? In one case, a couple of crack whores keep getting their fixes for a month or so, in the other a couple of mass murderers have another month to plot and plan a terrorist attack... Sorry, back on track. Why didn't they bust the crack house? You can watch the drugs being sold out of the houses in this town...the cops just ignore it. Ironically enough, these are the same laws that provide us protection, both before and during court...
And realize, our entire law system is based on the premise that one is innocent until proven guilty so even if you "see" it with your own eyes, the onus is on an attorney to prove that said activity to a jury of peers...
Certainly not perfect, and something I am not always excited about, but if you don't like it, well, we are allowed to leave:)

I tend to think those are gross bastardizations of the laws that are supposed to protect us from the state.

I went to pizza hut in Times Corners today. I was sitting in the drive through carry out lane for roughly 5 minutes. We counted 5 police cars pass us in that time.

Isn't the only Dunkin Donuts in Fort Wayne right down the street? I don't blame them, if so. Krispy Kreme sucks!kimaliz wrote:I went to pizza hut in Times Corners today. I was sitting in the drive through carry out lane for roughly 5 minutes. We counted 5 police cars pass us in that time.

What time of day? Could have been officers that live in Aboite going to their shift in a different quadrant. Don't forget, alot of those cars driving around are off-duty officers.

around 2pm.
well it is nerve wrecking.
I have needed to call the police once in my life other then a traffic accident I was in which was once too and really i didnt need them for a fender bender.
When I was 18 in my first apartment I thought I heard someone break in. They proceeded to yell at me because they no one was there and I wasted thier time.

My parents were at a city planning meeting not to long ago and greatest question raised was
"why are we loosing the 20-35 year old bracket of people and how can we keep them?"
Well as someone stated above, it is not the city's responsablity to provide safe travels for drinkers. However, I stongly belive that is a core reason that my age group leaves town along with the job market.
When I am bored with a job that sucks I want something to do after that to relax, it's hard to go relax when you are terrified of the consequences of going out to relax.
So with the amount of cops per capita and our poor trans system and no jobs we tend to leave.
The cop situation is just part of our city's downfall in the fight to become a city that attracts my age group, but it IS a big part of it IMO
