Hire me to play bass

Post by bassjones »

Okay, here's the deal, I'm in school full-time and working a lousy job until I finish my degree in September. Meanwhile, my lovely wife, whom I adore, used to have a pretty decent job, but has had to have 2 spinal fusions in the past 2 years and has been on disability (private disability insurance - I'm a Libertarian  ). Well, her disability ended in February, and now she has a 2 year gap in her work history while she was on disability, so no one will hire her - despite the fact that she finished a year of graduate school in great pain and on heavy medication, which greatly affected her learning and memorization skills...

Anyway, we are in serious trouble financially right now and I need to make some extra money the only way I really know how - by playing bass. I prefer r&b/jazz/funk/gospel/etc..., but also enjoy playing rock, country, pop, whatever...

I will take live or studio work any night of the week - except Sunday and Monday nights. Not joining anybody's band though - I've got my own, North River Agents, which I love - we're just not making any money right now. I need paying gigs. Fill in, temporary, one night stand, whatever. As long as it's a paying gig - at least $50, more if I have to drive very far, and I'd really like to make about $100 a night.

I read well, and improvise well, but prefer working with chord chart/lead sheets for these type of casual gigs. I don't drink or do any drugs, nor do I smoke. I show up on time and play the bass part - no unnecessary chops from me! I've been told I have great time and great feel, and am easy to work with. I bring one fretted 5-string bass and a professional preamp to go straight to the board, or if you prefer I can rent a cabinet - extra cost to cover rental fees though. Please email me - bradjones_bass@yahoo.com if you have work in Northeast Indiana or Northwest Ohio - even Southwest Michigan, or know somebody who might.

That's all. Thank you for your time.

I just did a very last minute fill in for Basement What last night - apparently, Pete's wife went into labor a couple of weeks early sometime Saturday afternoon. Lou called me at around 6:30 and asked me to be at C-Street at 8. We went through their set list, picked out some songs I knew, and settled on two short sets worth. Then, Lou, Dave and Nick did their originals set acoustically. Nobody was there so we ended up just doing one set of covers, but I think a good time was had by all. I know I had fun, met and played with some new people, made a little cash, all is well...

I'm pretty much out all of August. I've got two classes every week in August. Now, depending on the number of zeros.......

Better get on it! I just did a session at Sweetwater and it went amazingly well. I believe they are going to start booking me for more sessions, and they even paid me more than I was contracted for... Things keep going like this and I may be playing full-time here soon.
