RALLY FOR RIGHTS!!!

6:00 PM
Piere's Club
St. Joe Rd.
Ft. Wayne, IN
Refreshments will be provided at this no-alcohol event, free of charge.
Please attend this rally to show support for the rights of small business owners and individuals.
Your attendance at this meeting is vital to stopping the trampling of individual fredoms!
Hello,
My name is Jennifer Jeffrey, newly elected Chairperson of the Libertarian Party of Allen County. I strongly urge you to spread the word about the cause of individual rights. I challenge you to become one with the community of Allen County--the community we are a part of..
This needs your immediate attention!
Recently, I met with Todd Smith, Manager of Piere's. We discussed the public rally he has organized to unite small business
owners and individuals whose jobs and businesses have been put in jeopardy by the tyranical smoking ordinance the city
council has recently imposed. As you well know, the Libertarian Party of Allen County believes that the rights of adults to
assemble and engage in legal activities in public places and private establishments cannot be compromised. The market must be
free and will dicate policy. We as Libertarians believe that the market will eventually create such things as smokers-only
establishments, smoke friendly establisments, and non smoking establishment to cater to the diverse range of consumers in our
area. We whole-heartedly support the rights of small business owners to decide what does and does not take place in their
establishments. And, we whole-heartedly support the right of the individual to choose what type of establishments they
frequent. We believe in an individual's responsibility not to impose their values on other individuals.
Let's spread the word and fill the building!! Let's show the county and the local news media how much this issue matters to us!! Let's stand side with the local business owners!! There will be speakers, discussion, and organizing and plan of action to protect our rights. There will also be voter registration available.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Jeffrey
Chair, Libertarian Party of Allen County

I'll be there in spirit, but can not attend. 2 nights at Piere's the same week might cause me to spontaneously combust

"WHY" you ask?
You've gotta be kidding me. A rally for rights at Pierre's? C'MON!?
You go to Pierre's to see Chippendales... or to watch skanks shake their asses...or to down jello shots...maybe when your cousin turns 21...or once a year to watch the Whammy's. You do not go for a Libertarian rally for rights (unless, perhaps, the issue at hand is prohibition).
To each his own, but nothing about Pierre's seems to mesh with the ideologies that come to mind when I consider the Libertarian party.
Plus, the management at Pierre's do not appear to hold the values of the people or the rights of small business owners in very high regards.
'Just my opinion....

Care to cite some examples? I understand your point, and I tend to see its validity, but I'd like more concrete information. I think that Piere's (which is locally owned and run) would have a vested interest in the smoker's aspect of the thing.jewlee138 wrote:Plus, the management at Pierre's do not appear to hold the values of the people or the rights of small business owners in very high regards.

According to what was being promoted on the radio, this was not a rally open to the general public. It was a meeting of local business owners to see if there is any interest in backing Todd Smith's (GM of Piere's) lawsuit that I believe he's considering.

(WANE) - Fort Wayne - Last month, the Fort Wayne City Council voted to ban smoking in all restaurants, bars, bowling alleys, and private clubs. The decision has many business owners fuming, and they've lit up the smoking debate again.
About 200 business owners met at Piere's Nightclub Monday night to organize politically. Fort Wayne business owners said a revolution is underway. Piere's General Manager Todd Smith said, "I think enough is enough with the city council we have in place here." The meeting was attended by Mayoral candidate Matt Kelty and six City Council candidates, all of whom are in favor of public smoking. The group's goal is to vote-in a more small business-friendly government in November. "I really liked all the candidates up there and I think they can do a whole lot for us," says Jeff Briley, from Bogey's Bar & Grill.
Mike Foster, the owner of Foster Sport Pub, said more people need to make their voices heard. "I vote every time. I've never missed one, but you can't do it by yourself. We need everyone else to get out and vote."
Business owners aren't just taking their fight to the ballot box. They're also headed to court. Piere's encouraged businesses to join a lawsuit and have a judge decide if the smoking ban is legal. "We have not filed a motion yet. I have met with my attorneys on several occasions since I last talked to the media and it will be filed in the next few weeks," said Smith.
Businesses are offering Piere's support -- both moral and financial. Foster said, "I'm going to get on a committee and promote that we need money to fight the council on what they've done."
But unless the courts decide differently, the smoking ban takes effect June first.

Piere's has one thing in mind and one thing only...money...I can't say that I can hold that against anyone in business since business is generally about gainful existance...
For piere's though...if they don't stand to gain from it...they aren't going to be involved...they would never take one for the team...
Yes...locally owned and operated...HOWEVER...would do everything in their power, and HAVE, to prevent other local businesses from competing against them...instead of helping other local establishments build and prosper they typically take the crush and remove approach...
Don't get me wrong...I have always had a good level of reqpect for Stand and in fact the Bar (though I rarely go there), but they are not the best poster child for 'small local business'...
As far as the attempt the remove the ban...I highly doubt they will succeed...they had MONTHS to put this effort forth and prevent it from going through...now they want to fight to remove it...
