I don't plan on being here for more than another 10-12 months, so I really don't care about the local politics here anymore.

I have already made up my mind on how I am going to make a change...

Leaning Kelty, but I'm more concerned about City Council anyway. I'm voting straight Libertarian, except I'm thinking of voting for a Democrat just to be sure Crawford gets beat.

I don't doubt you are right. Non-smoking is the way the whole country is going.

I just hate him and think he is a little b*tch and I am very happy he is going to lose.

I did read that they are talking about bringing it back up and possibly loosening some of the restrictions next year.

We will just have to wait and see what happens...

I'm curious to see if it is brought back up and/or changed. There are so many other cities that have done it (even states) and it's been fine for years. I know Fort Wayne doesn't like change, but that's life.

If the inability to accept change ends up closing the Chipotle they're about to open, I will have to start harming people.

Crawford sent packing, says he was ‘right'

Even the largest campaign war chest couldn’t keep Republican City Councilman John Crawford from losing his seat in what he deemed an unusual election year.

In fact, Fort Wayne elected at least three new members to the council, with a fourth leading in a tight race.

In the race for the council’s three at-large seats, voters put former Councilman Marty Bender, a Republican, back in office with 17.6 percent of the vote. Councilman John Shoaff, a Democrat, won re-election with 17.5 percent, and Liz Brown, a Republican, won the final seat with 16.4 percent. Brown edged Crawford by a mere 107 votes, according to unofficial results with 97 percent of the precincts reporting.

Incumbent Councilman Sam Talarico, R-at-large, did not seek re-election.

Crawford said he was surprised not to win re-election but said the reality began to hit him when he saw how much the GOP mayoral candidate was trailing his Democratic opponent.

Controversial issues were a large part of Crawford’s final year on the council as he pushed a new comprehensive citywide smoking ban and supported the much-debated $120 million Harrison Square project.

Crawford said Harrison Square was the toughest vote as it was politically difficult, but he said he was proud to have voted for what he believed was right.

“It was a strange year,â€

Bender has said he will bring the smoking ban back for discussion next year and supports reducing some of its restrictions.
