Mark Foley crap.

Post by Oliver's Army »

I was listening to NPR onm the way home yesterday and they were interviewing Free Congress Foundation Chairman Paul Weyrich on his thought regarding Foley and his issues

He said, in regards to Foley:
"the problem is that gays are obsessed with sex"

the host replied "that's your opinion?"

"it's not an opinion, it's a fact. a fact verified by all the pscyhotherapists that deal with them"
Isnt he sweet.

THIS is why we need represetatives and leaders who ACTUALLY represent and lead.

I found other memorable quips from Mr. Wyrich.
"The real enemy is the secular humanist mindset which seeks to destroy everything that is good in this society."
"Christ was crucified by the Jews.... He was not what the Jews had expected so they considered Him a threat. Thus He was put to death."
"From what [Igor Gaidar] told me, we needed to have revived these committees with a focus not so much on Hollywood but on the media itself. We know that one New York Times reporter, who always portrayed Stalin as Good Old Uncle Joe, was in fact a Communist and operated for decades on the Times staff. Were there any more? How about the Washington Post? . . . Why not reconstitute these two committees and let them work hand in glove with the FBI. That is what happened before 1965. J. Edgar Hoover would often suggest good targets to be investigated." -- Paul Weyrich Townhall.com, September 7, 2006.[19]
"Some political observers may see the presence of religious conservatives in the Republican Party as a threat. My former friend Kevin Phillips [author of "American Theocracy], who in the early days of the New Right was so helpful, now acts as if a theocracy governs the nation. Phillips was the architect of President Richard M. Nixon's Southern strategy, which worked brilliantly until Nixon did himself in. Now that the South does have the upper hand in the Republican Party Phillips is bitter about it. I see no theocracy here. As someone who has helped the religious right transition to the political process, I would have nothing to do with something akin to Iran translated into Americanize." -- Paul Weyrich The "Values Summit" series - legislative opportunities. RenewAmerica.us, July 6, 2006
Weyrich sought to exempt Wiccans from the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment[9] and bar them from serving the military altogether. Weyrich, as president of the Free Congress Foundation, led a coalition of ten religious right organizations that attempted a Christian boycott on joining the military until all Wiccans were removed from the services, saying:

"Until the Army withdraws all official support and approval from witchcraft, no Christian should enlist or re-enlist in the Army, and Christian parents should not allow their children to join the Army" ... "An Army that sponsors satanic rituals is unworthy of representing the United States of America" ... "The official approval of satanism and witchcraft by the Army is a direct assault on the Christian faith that generations of American soldiers have fought and died for" ... "If the Army wants witches and satanists in its ranks, then it can do it without Christians in those ranks. It's time for the Christians in this country to put a stop to this kind of nonsense. A Christian recruiting strike will compel the Army to think seriously about what it is doing." -- Paul Weyrich "'Satanic' Army Unworthy of Representing United States," Free Congress Foundation press release, June 9, 1999

Thus supporting the main problem with many religions...if you don't agree with MY religion then "BURN IN HELL!" Is it just me, or are Christian extremists some of the most completely intolerable people on the planet?

The original says "some of" afterwards. It was not an all encompassing statement, Ollie, and you know I don't think all are. But, honestly, most of the "Christians" I've encountered on my life's journey have been intolerable douche bags.

I can't help but get the feeling that many judge "Christians" by the minority. The loud, judgemental, narrow minded and intolerant minority.

I suppose that yes, there are many shades of grey to this, but not unlike any stereotype it is described by the examples of the extreme.

At least I know/hope that most don't think this way.

I can't believe you don't believe me. Can't believe it! I grew-up in one the most Protestant heavy communities around, and I happened to attend Catholic mass with mom, so I got sh*t on for that. I'm ethnic, and of course they had a ball with that one. If anything made me turn away from the church, besides all that juicy scientific evidence, it was how tragically full of themselves all the Christians I knew were and, sadly, still are.

Misunderstanding.

I meant that *most* of the Christians *I* know are not intolerant. If they are... they certainly keep it to themselves.

And surprisingly, most of the people I know don't think that "Christians" are *mostly* intolerable....and ironically... If they are they certainly keep it to themselves.

That was not a reflection on you at all.

I know EXACTLY where you are coming from and sadly to some degree I agree with you.

A major Christian and Jewish tenet is that if you don't believe in their god, you are damned. That alone starts them all off on the wrong foot by preaching intolerance and elitism.

I've met a mixed bag of them, but I can say that MY definition of a Christian actually only applies to a VERY small minority of people who would list themselves as Christian.

The people who were raised on Christ and believe in the teachings of the New Testament, but live a normal, educated, and open-minded life (who are most of the self-proclaimed Christians I know) are not that way. There are Christ fanatics who eschew the real world in exchange for life by a narrow interpretation of an ambiguous book of fables (true or not, they are told by men who certainly embelleshed their stories for the sake of their audience). Those people who see no other possibilities in the world or in life are the ones who strike fear into my heart by their very existence.

I also rarely encounter those people.

More often than that, I encounter the people who are Christians by the fact that the love and believe in Christ and try to live a good, honest life without hurting others. They are worried for the souls of non-believers, but don't push their views on them.

I was raised as a Methodist and I discovered the fact of other religions when I was 19 as a freshman in college. Prior to that, no one had ever exposed me to anything else. Once that gate was open, I couldn't deny statistics that show that Christians, while being the largest population, are still the minority based on world population. 33% folks. The rest of the world doesn't believe in Christ. That woke me up.

I still believe in many of the teachings I learned growing up. I take to heart the MEANINGS of the messages, but not the stories themselves. As Kevin Smith discusses in "Dogma", I'd rather have a set of ideas which I can easily shift and change than be tied down to the shackles of belief.
There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those who understand binary. . .

. . .and those who don't.

I agree with both of these points. The 1st type that Garr lists, I believe
are the ones that get the most attention. While the 2nd type,
like he states, are everyday people you meet and probably wouldn't
even know what their belief was.

I just don't believe in hell.
Right on.

So, where do all the bad people go then? To a giant auditorium where a continious loop of "Against All Odds" plays for eternity?
man I love those certain things

Perhaps you've never seen the popular "FIXED" method. We do that as a gag mostly, no intention of mincing words.
