Guess who I guess isn't allowed to vote in Ohio

Post by mattjericho »

A 25 year old male who registered over 60 days before the election.

So yah - if I don't get an answer within the next few days the Ohio Sec of State will be getting a phone call. On the air.

f**k this sh*t.

I'm pissed as f**k right now.
[b]Okay, think of what little patience I have as, oh, I don't know, your virginity. You always thought it would be there, until that night Junior Year when you were feeling a little down about yourself and your pal Kevin, who just wanted to be friends, well, he dropped by and he brought a copy of About Last Night and a four-pack of Bartels & James and woo hoo hoo, it was gone forever - just like my patience is now.

It's great that you care! Unfortunately, I've been noticing a growing trend of some kind of eff-it attitude among early twenty-somethings in this city.

Some lines overheard have been:

"Oh they're just going to throw out my vote"

"It doesn't really count"

"My vote doesn't make a difference"

AND

"We can't change anything by voting."

It's really a pretty sad state of things. These aren't immature young people either, most are halfway through school, or just graduating this semester.

Sorry, that was a tad off topic.

Have you looked into how long you have to be a legal resident of Ohio to vote in their local and state elections?

Perhaps you've just not been a resident long enough, so you'd forfeit those rights unless you'd be willing to drive to Indiana to vote for the local and state. Of course I don't think that it matters how long you've been a resident of the state for you to be able to vote in the federal elections.

no - I'm not saying "my vote wont count" in a whiny way. I'm talking about newspaper and TV stories about how in certain counties the new voting machines malfunctioned last election.

Not conspiracy theories, actual BOE people saying it happened.

BTW - I called the BOE today. They said they must have "misplaced" my stuff, and I'm now registered.

Make sure its not "mistakenly" registered as a Republican. That's been happening a lot in Ohio lately.

p.s. Unless you are registered as a Republican, which is your call.....but I assume you're not.

it's for the general election - not the primary - I didn't live here long enough to register for the primary.

On the side topic of people saying that their vote doesn't count... In a presidential election, it really doesn't. In the end, the electors cast the vote and don't have to cast their vote according to what the represented populace wanted.

However, in state/local elections for senators, representatives, governors etc, each individual's vote does matter much more.

The problem is that the presidential election gets all of the publicity so the simpletons all have one person/administration to blame their problems on. The fact of the matter is that local elections keep those checks and balances strong on the higher levels.

Consider it this way: If you play the powerball, you can win a whole lot more money, but have a far smaller chance of winning than if you were to play the hoosier lotto... The hoosier lotto seems smaller, but wouldn't it make sense to play the game you're more likely to win?

explain this. ?

what i odnt understand is why we still have the electoral college or what ever. Certain states worth certain amount of points? ridiculous. It hsould be about who gets more votes. They had that system in effect for when presidents couldnt get out to states due to them being sooo far away and how hard it would be andt he fact that people werent educated. We have jets and public schools now... get rid of that crap.

Only ones with fake ID's - in Ohio you gotta have an ID to vote.

hey now, I think if a corpse can re-animate themself and can find their drivers lisense we should let them vote.

Most of them would be republican anyway. Why vote to better the world when you are already dead...

which strangely reminds me of a lot of republicans I know...

Laughable!

And that sh*t is well documented as happening in Ohio this year. Already registered voters receiving a letter telling them they ae a registered Republican when they themselves claim they are clearly not.
