This is bringing us into interesting territory.Myrddin wrote:No, I've actually been in the Army and understand how it works, the good and bad. You see the Army as a giant evil entity that is out to to smash and crush. When the reality is most of us are just regular people trying to get home.
First, no, i said that the army is capable of doing good. remember how i've said that like f'n 4 times or so?
Second, regular people trying to get home? That sounds like the copout for every atrocity. Eichmann was just trying to do his job. the soldiers at My Lai wanted nothing more than to get home.
To make an omelet... Besides I never invaded anything. This was going on before I enlisted.
Oh. Right. You're an individual.
I forgive you, but I wont stop laughing. By the way, he's not hedonistic. Pay more attention to the philosophy instead of trying to justify the military and you'll get it some day.His views are interesting, but a bit hedonistic. Excuse me for making a spelling error then pasting and copying.
Ok, I think we're basically ideologically on the same page - I'm just not falling for the rhetoric of democracy and liberty.Without some patriotism, without some hope that things can get better, then we might as well just give up. Pack the whole thing in.
I hope the Kurds know that we put him in power. I also hope they understand that oppression is still oppression whether it comes from guys with bad mustaches or not.I am sure my Kurdish friends and non-Ba'ath Party friends would be more than happy to argue this point with you. Do you know how many atrocities were commited by Saddam? Do you know about Halabja. I am sure the Kurds would love to suffer through that again.
What? They voted Sadaam in power not too long ago, silly. The people were allowed to vote for the first time.
Dude! Contrary to (2006 minus 1776) years of history, we're doing something completely altruistic! Awww!We take in their sick and wounded and provide them medical care. We've helped rebuild (yes from OUR bombings) and improved their infrastructure.
I hope you're not pissed if I dont really fall for it. Cheaters R Cheaters 4 Life.
dude, did you watch black hawk down too many times? i imagine at this point you need your stomach pumped of all the propaganda you've eaten.I was talking about YOUR lack of involvement. When I enlisted, the war was already well on it's way. I joined and became a medic so I could help save lives make the small difference that I could. I don't agree with many points of the war, that didn't change the fact that people were getting killed and wounded and medics were needed.
here's a sweet quote that you'll never understand:
"True compassion is more than flinging a coin at a beggar; it comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
