Most conservatives I know have no concept of progression, and it really irks me.

In the past 6 years our nation has fallen waaaaay behind in scientific research and development due to the current administration's cutting of funds.

Also, religion has no place in government, seperation of church and state. Conservatives usually want that sh*t all up in there.

conservatives usually arent as "for the common man" as others are.

The fact that like massage bored said conservatives usually want that sh*t up in there"... is my biggest problem. Not to be anti-religion and/or an butthead, but with ppl running our country who so strongly believe in the bible, it is near impossible for the government to grow to new ideas. For example, stem-cell research. I saw somethign about this last year where the government stores thousands of stem cells, WAYYY past the point they could be used, j/ so that science and the world can't use them. The government refuses to be at fault for killing them (that is why they are in frozen containers FOREVER wasting tons of money) and they refuse to support scientists because of religious issues. That is probably one of the 10 trillion issues i have with conservatives, the lack of growth, and new ideas.

religion is a brand of politics all together its own. it's why it can't mix with another system of governing. a theocracy is really the only place where it works right. in any other political structure the government and the religions will come to a split stance at some point.

note: purely opinion. i have no fact or source to back up those statements. it's just an observation.

Them's the ones that get me. My grandparents are conservatives, yet voted Democrat their whole life because the Republican candidate was always one of the above descriptions.

1) the dissolution of programs that help people. "Well I saw a special on the TV that said there were black crackhead women who have more and more babies to get more welfare! GET A JOB!" <- it's an argument that's based on terrible thinking and prejudice. i'm talking welfare, job assistance, funding for arts, etc. f**k tax cuts for rich people that send us further into economic depression - WHICH CUTS FUNDING FOR POOR PEOPLE.

2) they're usually morons (hey, you asked). (to be fair, democrats aren't any different. al gore said that if democrats controlled the white house, there wouldn't be the corruption that there is now - need i say more? ok, i will: there's going to be corruption no matter what. to think otherwise is to have a FAITH in the system.)

3) they try to cater to the mindset of the working class white people. they try to incite them. there's a lot of working class people - and that's why they push patriotism (which caters because working class people are the ones who join the military), southern accents, and friendly but inarticulate speech. f**k that. "get your G-d #$%# hands off of the working class you filthy lying bastards!" - me to the "conservatives."

4) i would say that they're ultra-military-spending-ish, but that's not true. they are right now. but i'm pretty sure they've been against clinton's military funding in the past. so everyone just flipflops in this pathetic, though however entertaining, drama called "politics." we eat and drink (and vote), while tomorrow they die.

5) republicans are the worst at manipulating facts. absolutely filthy horrible. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!! i have to read entire f'n books just to understand a particular issue with the particular panacea for the cancerous sh*tty facts that republicans republicate out (republicate out meaning "lying off of their forking asses to the max and should be "tried for treason").

6) that being said (#5), they're terribly awesome at arguments. when you make up your own facts and have a million or so other republicans to back you up, it makes it that much harder to figure out the truth. how do i use simple logic when you have facts that prove me wrong? a day, a week, a month, a year later, i will know that you were wrong. riddles are fun and all, but let's be f'real, "politics," even this silly drama game sh*t, means "life and death."

7) F' TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS. what's the other name for this, by the way?

8 ) they're smug bastards. combine 1-7 and add smugness, and you've got problems.

looking backwards: this doesn't apply to legit people who actually give a f' about people. the real conservatives on the board i think do have people's best interests at heart (and by conservatives i mean "bassjones."). though to build on what zach said, progress doesn't mean going back in time where poor people were free to be F'd in the A with no assistance from anyone but churches. i'm all about being pragmatic. but jesus f-stick, a little bit of justice and a little less oppression would be nice.

Tax cuts for rich people has been a proven method for increasing tax revenues.

Thank you, I think... Most True conservatives you'll find are of a similar mindset to mine. Don't confuse the carricature for the real thing...

i can think of one bonafied economist that i personally know that would disagree. i've been meaning to talk to him about this too.

It's a flakey situation in general. What is a "conservative" when everyone calls themselves a conservative and "conservative" means "super outrageous and not even equivalent to the conservatives of yesteryear" ?

While some of your views are mad callous, I know at the same time:

1) You have a general desire for good
2) You actually read up

I can't even imagine how many so-called conservatives dont read up. I'm also pretty sure that I know some conservatives who are just pragmatic, and not dogmatic like the typical republican guy is now. Pragmatic meaning: they dont think that some programs work as well as they could and would rather trim fat and explore other avenues.

i have no idea what i'm talking about.

I think you are onto something, Chimney. Before the thread goes any further, DEFINE CONSERVATIVE. – Moral conservative? Fiscal conservative? Social Conservative? I would not consider the GOP to be a true representative of fiscal conservatism (or moral conservatism, either).

I really think the political climate lately, with blowhard pundits left and right, have made the terms 'liberal' and 'conservative' utterly meaningless. Add to that the fact that in the last 300 years, terms have been used to label groups of completely opposing ideologies to what the labels supposedly mean today.

I guarantee that whatever definitions you people post of the terms 'liberal, moderate, and conservative', I (and most of the rest of you,) would not willingly identify yourself with any one of the camps; and that is okay.

A political dialogue of any substance and meaning is going to have to go beyond the labelling and stereotypes these terms bring. I mean a person saying "All conservatives mix church & state up too much." or "All Liberals are for lots of government spending." is the same thing as saying, "All Irish are drunks." Not true.
