Per Julie @ the Regional Office in Indianapolis (317-269-4590), White Castle is currently looking into opening a store in Fort Wayne. Not this year, but she said possibly sometime in 2008!

They're coming to Marion, my former hometown. It's just 45-50 minutes away down 69. I head down every couple of weeks.

That's too far when you're intoxicated.

I hear this rumor every year, granted your source is far more reliable than any others, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I, too, hear it all the time. It resurfaced again recently so I decided to call again. The last 5 or 6 times I've called they said "there are no current plans, blah blah blah".
This is the most promising update I've heard. The lady said that they're aware of the demand for a White Castle in the area and that they are looking into possible sites for a FW location.
But like you said...I'll believe it when I see it.

A guy on the Journal Gazette messageboard states the following...
Yeah, it was talked about at the 9/27 Plan commision meeting. As well as another Subway and C-Store like the "new" one on Bluffton road. The lot is still for sale though.

Ugh. Prognosis = not good...for now.
She went from saying "maybe sometime in 2008" to "we are currently looking into sites up there but haven't found anything just yet...but you should see one in the next few years."
Damnit.

So a few months ago I sent an email to White Castle following up on the new released here in this thread. I didn't hear anything back for along time till today I got a letter in the mail. This is what it says word for word
"Thank you for your recent inquiry directed to the corporate office regarding new locations under consideration in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I am happy to inform you that we are currently planning to do a research on Fort Wayne as a future White Castle market; however, at this time we have planned all of our construction for 2008 and are now looking for sites for 2009 and beyond. Furthermore, we are looking at property in Marion, Indiana. However, due to the volatility of the process, we do not like to discuss proposed sites until after the deal has been finalized and all the permits have been received.
White Castle prides itself on growing slowly. We do not franchise any of our restaurants in the United States. Domestically, our restaurants and market expansion are financed from retained earnings. For these reasons, White Castle tends to operate within the existing Midwest and Northeast regions where all our support facilities (meat plants, bakeries, etc.) are located. White Castle believes in this business practice so we can provide a stable company for our 12,000-plus employees.
Due to these factors, as well as advertising efficiencies, we add only approximately ten to fifteen new restaurants every year to our existing market areas along with restaurant remodeling and building replacement as needed."
This was from Elizabeth Ingram V.P., Restaurant operations.
Then enclosed was a list of all White Castle locations, including some factory locations. It says there are 410 White Castle locations currently.
She could of least sent some coupons or gift cards.
