. . .and the reason is. . .

parents who refuse to take responsibility. i could go off on this rant for PAGES and PAGES as I've had the conversation for hours and hours with dozens and dozens.

basically, in my mind, it boils down to this: there is this class of parent who doesn't want to take responsibility for raising their own kids, so they expect the schools to do it, but when the school tries to take control, the out of touch parent screams and yells in complete disbelief that the child they barely know could do such a thing and even though they hold the school responsible for all the problems, they strip them (with the fear of lawsuits) from being able to actually DO anything about it. Individual parents suing schools over petty sh*t is the reason why my kid won't get a spanking from the principal when that's EXACTLY what he needs. It's the reason that a child acting out in class will be allowed to continue to do so, disrupting my son's chance to get a better education because the teacher is spending more time shackled the inability to actually assign any disciplinary action.

It makes me sick.

I got in trouble. A lot. The school beat my ass into shape, literally and figuratively.

It's these same parents who won't allow the school to flunk their child or hold them back. I flunked so many classes (out of sheer boredom) that I almost didn't graduate AND I had to take summer school classes. The children know that they can whine and cry to absentee mommy or daddy, or self-righteous mommy or daddy and suffer absolutely NO ill consequence to their horrid behavior. And they do it. They know that no one will do a damned thing about it.

It continues to make me sick. I wish I could afford private school for Parker, but I'm still paying the consequences of my stupid actions and decisions that I have made as an adult. Children growing up in this way will have NO clue what waits for them in adult life where things aren't so easily smoothed over.

By the way, it makes me sick.
There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those who understand binary. . .

. . .and those who don't.

These situations are so hypothetical it's funny.

For every kid who was paddled and was changed for the better there is a kid who was abused and traumatized for the worse.

This whole thing reminds me of those scary religious comics about D&D and how it was turning me towards satanism.

Amen to that...our society doesn't want to take responsibility and it is showing in every aspect. Parents today can't stand up and pay their dues for what they have brought into this world...can't sacrifice a second of extra time to make sure their kid can read, write, or obey, but then want everyone to give them everything including a first place trophy even when they come in last...

Second place sucks...strive to come in first...:)

For every kid who was paddled and was changed for the better there is a kid who was abused and traumatized for the worse.
And your point is????

#1. 99% of the abuse of kids out there comes from someone they know. Most of that time, it's an immediate family member. Yes there are kids who are abused, but there are more who need a paddle on the ass. And thankfully, a good chunk of social workers are starting to see that it does work.

#2. CYA is common sense. Going to paddle a kid's ass? Get another adult to supervise.

#3. Kids are being told EVERYTHING is child abuse. Send a kid to bed without eating dinner because they would not eat what was on their plate? All it takes is a paranoid teacher to take interest and the police are ringing your doorbell. And kids know this. And they use it.

Parents today do suck, and God help us when it comes to THEIR children. But I honestly think this is what will be the downfall of the public education system. We will slowly start seeing more and more private schools rise out of the ashes which will do a better job of educating the kids. Since there is very little competition in public schools, this is what we get....

Yes, beating kids asses is fun, and really easy because I am so much bigger and stronger than them.

I am very happy that my parents did what they did. I was spanked when bad and from that I was rarely bad. My father pinned me down and hit me one time when i was 15. That was because I called him a forking butthead. I never did it again and I was never struck again. My action was way out of line and I knew it when I did it, i did it to get a reaction and i got my reaction.

I was never abused by my parents, I was trained as best as they could and I love them for that. Children have no right to treat teachers and parents the way they do these days, and even in my childhood kids where horrible. I saw more dissrespect for elders at South Side High School while I was a student there then I have anywhere, even as an adult I have not witnessed that kind of blatant dissrespect.
