God, If You're There.....
Help us.
I was at a stoplight yesterday when a woman in a Tahoe pulled up next to me blaring, I mean BLEEAAARRRINNGG that awful song that has the lines "You're a crazy b*tch but you fu*k so good I'm on top of it...." Anyway, no big whoop, free country and all. Thing is, a boy, maybe 3-5 was sitting next to her...and this was the CD version, unedited. She's singing along passionately as he stares passively out the window.
Am I prude and old-fashioned in seeing this as being in really bad taste? I mean, crank your (not directing this to anyone on these boards, mind you---just venting a tad) music whenever and wherever you want and listen without predjudice, but for God's sake, when it involves hardcore, X-rated lyrics, wait until the kids aren't around.
Amen.

man I love those certain things
I agree, it's in bad taste.
And I watch some Fd up movies and listen to music full of questionable lyrics and content. My son does not.
Before he was speaking, we felt like we could get away wth some of it, but I can no longer fall asleep to Super Troppers or Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle because the language is not good for him.
Now, I fall asleep to Finding Nemo. . .or Hoodwinked.

There are 10 types of people in the world.
Those who understand binary. . .
. . .and those who don't.

sigh,... when kids are involved, I tend to get a little
more passionate about this.
Not at all. Your fine.Am I prude and old-fashioned in seeing this as being in really bad taste?
When parents act like this in front of their(or other) children,
IMO,.. I wish there was an old-fashioned "Woop A** Center"
to send them too.

yes,..."in some cases".in some cases, it was precisely the excessive A-whoopings they got as kids (amongst other things) that screwed them up into adulthood.
...but in others....
do remember the times when I could wear
the "bratty little punk" label, and one of those
"A woopings" straightened me right out.....
But no, no, no,.. never excessive.

These are the idiots that worry me.
Remember when Congress was talking about censoring music and the RIAA countered by introducing the Explicit Lyrics labels that go on CDs? That only works as long as parents have enough common sense to look at the label and realize what it means. Imagine if an overzealous congressman in an election year (like this one) had seen the same scene as he drove around? We'd have Dee Snider in front of Congress all over again.
I'm all for free speech, but people have to exercise common sense.

Not that most congressmen would be able to hear anything through the three inch thick glass windows on their stretch hummer limos with the A/C pumping full blast getting 1/2 mile per gallon.

I don't think it matters what you let your kid listen to or watch at any age. It just depends on how they react to it I guess. for example: A girl I went to school with for 12 years wasn't allowed to even watch an R Rated movie by her parents even up to her senior year. No explicit music, etc. And how does the story end? Now she is a stripper. A very caught up one at that. So I guess censoring works like a charm.
This system cannot be reformed or voted out of office because reforms and elections do not challenge the fundamental causes of injustice.

I grew up in the bar that my family owned for 50 years. The first 18 years of my life were spent in that kind of enviornment. Plus had an older brother and sister who watched all kinds of R rated and what have you kind of movies with me around. Hell we also owned a farm and would bail hay in the middle of the summer. When we would get done at the end of the day my dad would toss me a beer saying, "Do a man's work, you get to drink a man's drink."
The thing about it all was my dad taught me about responsiblity and integrity. He also taught me about reality and how a civilized person should act. He didn't let me run around crazy and like an idiot, till I was 18 and responsible for my own actions, then he told me, "Get thrown in jail....don't call me."
Basically my point is.....the media and world around you is insane. The only thing you can control is the type of parent you are. What you teach your kids. The lessons you give them when young helps mold the people they become (obvisouly). The proble is most people don't take the time to teach their kids anything...except the wrong things....then wonder why they turn out bad.

I could tell you stories that would make this seem mild... I'm sure Bwohlgemuth could too... When we were foster parenting, we had a sibling group whose "parents" would watch porn in front of them, then when they got the urge would just go at it, in the living room, with the kids sitting right there... Talk about screwed up! They'd play with dolls and inevitably the boy and girl dolls would end up having sex with each other. Very disturbing. Of course, they ended up getting the kids back. Those two shouldn't have been allowed to own a dog, let alone raise their kids.
