I was just checking. I've seen a lot of folks pick up either of my archtops and try to treat them like any old flattop/solidbody.

The tone is a little muddy for my liking as of now, but I want to wait it out. I don't know if you've played hollow bodies before, but you know you can't expect one to sound like a Les Paul no matter what pickups are on it, right? You really have to adjust the way you play to the tone of the instru...

It's all happening at the zoo.
I do believe it,

When all else fails, modulate!

To add to the TMBG comments: listen to their song "She's an Angel" and realize that it's only four chords. Rhythm and voicing can do a lot for variety, even when the chords are pretty dull.

Hutnick, did I see your uke player out on the streets of Bloomington during Lotus Fest? If so, he did a nice version of Minnie the Moocher. Thanks for the encouraging words folks. I'll let you all know how things go once we get started. (And it's amazing how all the upright players always come out o...

Horn players: Do you like it hot?

It seems like I post something like this every couple of years, but here we go again! [Edit: And now I'll just update this one, since it's the same project.] Hi, we're The End Times Spasm Band. You can find us by clicking here and navigating from there to videos, our Facebook page, etc. Right now, w...

I'm just going to respond to that #1 point on industrialization of food production, and then I'm done, as this is going nowhere fast. Feel free to get the last word. From what data can be gathered after imperialism has swept the globe, the emergence of intensive agriculture appears to have actually ...

In as non-condescending tone as I could say this, your knowledge of Chinese history, industrialization, and the global market seems to be a little short. The recent global adoption of the sort of economies that developed in Western Europe in the last few centuries hasn't proceeded out of any sort of...

1) "Final observations" don't happen in the real world. With this sort of paper, the best you can really hope for are reccommendations for future studies. The methodology is only in part 1. Read the other two sections. 2) It's a literature review in an academic journal and it's covering an incredibl...

So you think trade liberalization is better for human health

If you think globalization is helping to improve human health and increase equity, take a look at this three part article by two researchers from the University of Ottawa. Globalization and social determinants of health: Introduction and methodological background (part 1 of 3) Globalization is a key...

Right. Feel free to continue arguing against planned economies, since you can do that without me. Maybe somebody who supports them will join in with a rebuttal.

I'm not sure what you were getting at with your first question. "What's best" in an academic setting is determined the same way it is in the office of a business. Whether your deciding which fax machine to buy or whether to switch to a physics-first science curriculum, the process is the same. I don...

I never said academia was perfect. I just said I preferred because it had mechanisms in place to continuously review itself and give everyone some voice. Due to the nature of the game, students will not always get what they want when they want it, but in a well-funded university, they will get what ...

What do you do exactly? Have you ever had a real job? I work in academics now and probably will for the rest of my life. I spent several years in and around the Fort working in factories and a year doing customer service for a local importer. From my own anecdotal experience, I know I have more fai...
