Can fans and music be co-# 1's? It's the music that brings your band together in the first place and makes you comitted enough to play out/write songs/whatever. But without fans, you won't be playing out very much, at least not without being completely frustrated. I'd add that playing the right venu...

Depends on the song...Musically I think about what part is coming up, and where I'm at in the song. I keep an eye on our drummer for cues, see how the crowd is reacting, try to move around. Think about how this set is flowing (song order, etc.). Some parts are easier than others, so I can relax a bi...

In a word, I'd say no.anderson wrote:Do people in Fort Wayne, bands and bars, understand the role of a Promoter?
In trying to deal with new bars in recent months I've come to a conclusion that many people may not understand the role of a promoter.

Even if they didn't THAT night. They normally do, so they got the time slot they wanted and they got paid more. period. My point is that we were told and under the impression until the moment we arrive to load in... Time Slots were alternating Us (open), them, Us, Them (Close) Show starts at 10pm W...

What about thinking outside the box for promotions? I've had lengthy discussions with some people about running TV spots on Comcast. DIRT CHEAP. All is not what it seems until you see an air schedule and a potential bill in front of you. Actually, I've seen an air schedule and a bill, and they were...

What about thinking outside the box for promotions? I've had lengthy discussions with some people about running TV spots on Comcast. DIRT CHEAP. Another factor is the bar you are playing. We have a hard time drawing at certain bars no matter how hard we promote because our crowd just won't go to the...

We look at each situation individually. We don't always play for free, and we don't always take the best paying gig. There are also other ways of making a buck off of original music. We're self sufficient as a band: that is, we make enough money buy picks, sticks, strings, replace broken gear, and e...

and that attitude is why those of us who are trying to be professionals and make at least part of our living at this can't get bars to pony up more than $3-400 for a full band of professional musicians playing great music well for 4 hours. Nobody expects the bartenders and/or waitresses to work for...

It's not like it's gonna play itself. If it were to go haywire in the middle of a tune, that would suck. given recent Gibson qc issues... never mind. Sorry, but I strongly disagree. I'd take a Gibson over about any other guitar out there right now. There QC is much better now than it was in the Nor...
