#5 - Showcases

One venture that really set the stage for future events with the website was our series of shows simply called ‘FortWayneMusic.com Showcases’. These are just like they sound in the name…a ‘Showcase’ of local music. A chance for bands to come together and have a good time playing to a ‘different’ audience. What do you mean by ‘different’? Well If you think about how shows are typically set up you would see that most ‘shows’ that happen in bars especially are 2-3 bands that all play the same music and have the same style. In the showcases, however, we brought in a good ‘mix’ of music. It was not uncommon to have punk, rap, folk and rock all playing back to back to back… What made this so great is that the crowd was ‘different’ compared to what that band would normally play in front of. You come out to see you favorite punk band and you also get to here a great rap group…or even get exposed to the wonderful music of a single person with a guitar and mic. It brought different genres together and I know has lead to many diverse groups playing other shows in other venues together. Truly a brilliant plan…now 6 or 7 of them later we can look back and be proud. Wait till the next one…;)
