Honda Customer Service

Post by bassjones »

I haven't posted about this because I wanted to see what happened first...

3 weeks ago we found out our 2001 Honda Accord had a cracked engine block (120,000 miles). Unusual, given Honda's reliable reputation, we've owned the car since brand new, it's never overheated, and we've done every scheduled maintenance. Fast forward to yesterday. After speaking with a Honda rep. in California they agreed to pay 75% of the cost of a brand new engine (we asked for 100%, the offered 50%, we met in the middle). Still not pleased that the block cracked, but they definitely stand behind their product. We bought the extended warranty - 100K miles, but it's 20K miles beyond that. Truth is, they didn't have to do anything, but they did. I'm probably still buying a Toyota next time now (I want the FJ Cruiser anyway), but I'd certainly consider buying a Honda too.

[applause] YAY! [/applause]

It's great to hear stories like this. Thank you for sharing! I'm shocked and amazed!

I'm not in the market, nor will I be for a while, but I'll think Honda next time for sure!

again, we bought it new and had kept every maintenance record. I doubt they'd do that on a used car. He seemed genuinely surprised that it had happened and wanted to try to keep us as a loyal Honda customer. I pretty much told him what he had to do to have any chance of that happening and told him I know a lot of people and "If I thought I might have to replace the motor after 120K miles I could have saved $10G and just bought a Ford Taurus instead." He didn't think it was funny, but he gave me what I wanted.

I haven't had any problems with vehicles, but have always held Honda in high regards for quality and customer service.

My wife has a used VW Passat and I'd have to say that car is solid. The only time we have ever taken it in, was on recalls and service has always been top notch and Vorderman.

I have a used Chevy truck and haven't had any problems on that either.

If you do regular maintenance, barring a freak engine crack or the like, I'd figure that most companies nowadays, would treat you well...glad to hear that ring true from Honda!

We've had several Hondas. Great cars. Change the oil regularly and they run forever. I have a Honda lawnmower that I bought new about 15 years ago. It always starts first pull, even after sitting all winter. I just change the oil in the spring. Honda makes great engines.
