Radiohead's "In Rainbows"

Post by Morphine Child »

Anyone else download this today? I know there's a lot of bickering and bewilderment about them giving away their new album, but aside from that, has anyone downloaded it? It's forking awesome. I know a lot of Radiohead fans missed the guitar-driven stuff of pre-Kid A, and a lot of that is back. There isn't anything overly quirky or weird, it's just a straight up awesome forking album. Great songs, great sounds. Simply amazing!

This post deserves a reply because this album is awesome. I totally downloaded it and it is in heavy rotation. Johnny Greenwood is amazing.

I'm really enjoying it. Feels like a very mature work, cohesive and rockin'.

I downloaded it on the 10th and I was very disappointed. I wont elaborate because I respect them too much, but I'm glad I didn't pay for it.

I like it but it failed to rise above anything they have done so far. It is good background music for while I am working but in my opinion nothing compared to OK, KID A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief.

That's cool, i respect that opinion. Radiohead, to me, is a difficult band to judge in comparison to previous albums. haha. "Kid A" and "Amnesiac" are so far off from "OK Computer" which is so far off from "The Bends" which are all so far off from "Hail to the Theif" which all have little in common with "In rainbows"...it's confusing almost.

In a way, I think I've been judging it for what it is (which to me is the only way to judge a radiohead album): an album that is composed of nice and simple well written songs. It's almost like they took the Beatles white album approach. After "Sgt. Pepper", how do you get any more crazy? So they wrote a bunch of simple straight up awesome songs, and had a great album. I think "Hail to the Thief" was a remarkable combination of the weird side and the simple awesome songwriter side. So I guess I'm trying to say Hail was like their Sgt. Pepper, and Rainbows is their white album! haha.

*In no way was I trying to jab at you Al, I was just making an observation based on your response. :)

Yeah that wasnt a jab it actually summed up what I was thinking. Thats why I was saying it was more like background music to me. It is pleasant and good but nothing too exciting to grab my attention. It one of those albums I will listen to quietly for months before ever remembering any lyrics.
