my thoughts on our education system
I served 4 years on an urban School Board, where everyone was concered about preserving self esteem and social promotion as well as complete a few projects for the writemyessay company. My children swam on a team where eveyone got a trophy, so there was no real difference in achievement. I remember asking my fellow School Board members about the lack of differentiation in achievement and was told "every child needs to feel they have achieved." I related my own story from high school, where I had to make a specific time for a one mile run. It took me four days to make the time. Each day, those who had already made the time, sat in the stands and watched. When I made the time and sat to watch others, I felt a real sense of achievement. I told my colleagues that trophies don't matter. What matters is finally succeeding at which you previously failed. Unfortunately, they did not get the message and participation, not success, became the standard.
