WHN is planning on recording an upcoming show. Just curious as to the methods most people have had good results with. I've got 8 inputs on my interface, so am probably going to submix drums to two tracks, then bass, guitar, sax and vox on their own tracks with two live room mics. We can overdub percussion and background vocals later, if necessary, but the room mics should pick up enough of those for our purposes.

ha. funny guy you are. I should mention, everything will be coming off the 1/4" outputs of the live board. Each channel has a 1/4" out and the drums will be sent to one of the 8 subgroups. That subgroup will be the stereo mix for the drums which will be sent to the interface as two channels. Not the best method, but once I get a good stereo mix of the 6-8 drum mics it should work out okay. I'd rather have 16 inputs going to the computer, but I don't, so we'll have to make it work.

if you find yourself with an extra input, i would take a direct out of the kick drum too. then submix the rest of the kit to a stereo bus.

honestly, all that needs to be live are the drums and crowd mics. you can overdub all the rest. most live stuff i have recorded, the drums and room mics are all we end up keeping most of the time.

This set-up actually sounds pretty solid. I'm not sure I'd change a thing.

What kind of vocal mic are you using?
