Ibanez all the trucking way man. I LOVE mine. I even pronounce it right (considering it's a Spanish name) Ee-bahn-yez. Heh.
There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those who understand binary. . .

. . .and those who don't.

I see Brad and I have had the same experience.

Seriously, the last batches of MIA Washburn production acoustics were simply awesome guitars (I'm not certain, but I think all the MIA guitars are now considered "Custom Shop" models, if they still build any at all). When I needed a better-recording and more versatile acoustic about 10 years ago, I went shopping in South Bend, Indianapolis, Lansing... I played literally a hundred or more guitars. Guilds (which I loved in the 70s and but really suck now), Martins, a boatload of Taylors (overrated) and Seagulls... and then, on a whim, I walked down to Conser Music (which then was about 3 blocks from my house at the time) and encountered a Washburn Cumberland jumbo that I could not get out of my mind.

I bought it, of course (hell, it was less than half the price of the only other contender) and it's still one of the finest acoustics I've ever played, very close in tone and balance to my late 70's Guild F-50R.

Here's a recent project featuring that guitar... check out the depth, the punch, the crystal highs and the amazing sustain in the midrange. Taylor, eat your heart out.

I played the early Washburn ABGs and loved them (plugged in), especially the AB-55. Dumbest sale of an instrument ever. Well, that and my Pedulla.

Not as dumb as when I sold that Guild in '86. Yes, I had chopped a Willy-Nelson-style hole in the top with my finger picks (five years on the road, 6 nights a week, 4 hours a night) and had pretty much peeled off the neck binding with my left hand (I played a very energetic, percussive acoustic style in those days... I used to joke that guys like Adrian Legg picked their style up from me), but it still sang like nothing I've ever heard.

Ibanez makes a fine guitar, they also make some crap too, so be careful.

If you had a third option (assuming Japanese made instruments) I would have voted Yamaha... Maybe that's just me though.

Nope, I agree. I love the Mike Stern Pacifica guitars, and the "other contender" in my acoustic search was, in fact, a high-end Yamaha (gasp!). The AES electric guitars are really nice, and I think Yamaha still makes the best playing and sounding budget-student classical guitars anywhere: every guitar performance major at Jordan College had one back in my day, and they're still great.

the basses are an incredible value too. BB series are practically standard instruments for studio work now. Fender, Sadowsky, Yamaha. Show up with one of those and the producer breathes a sigh of relief. Of those, Yamaha costs less (way less than the Sadowsky or a vintage Fender) and is more consistent than the Fender. The motorcycles are killer too...

I can't agree that the BB basses are more consistent than Fender... mine was, sadly, a POS with a dead spot that extended from the fourth fret low E-string A-flat all the way down to the open E. I shouldn't have bought it, Greg Rezsel couldn't fix it, and I sold the bass when I bought the lovely American Precision Deluxe I play now.

That's unusual. I've never had a problem with Yamahas. I don't currently own one, but the ones I've had have been terrific. Fenders on the other hand.... although they're much better now. I also think since Yamaha moved manufacturing to Korea they're having more QC problems than when they were making them in Japan.
