By professional i mean a signed artist, or a session drummer. Please list name and band (and maybe even genre). And by best we are basing this of of creativeness.
For me its Josh Freese of the Vandals (punk rock) and A Perfect Circle (progressive rock), some of his stuff is so....i don't know how to explain it. Hes touring with nin, and i really can't wait to see him play. Plus hes a session drummer and has apeared on over 2500 albums. Best drummer on earth PERIOD.
Big fan of Carter Bouford of Dave Mathews Band as well.

I've always liked Manu Katche. I think he has played for Sting and Peter Gabriel, amongst others.

Its a three way tie between Stewart Copeland (Police), Neil Peart (Rush), and Tim "Herb" Alexander (Primus).

Actually, I'm about one and a half...maybe 2, myself. So together, we are 2 and a half to 3!

Toss up between Neil Peart and Tony Royster Jr. I've seen a video of Royster Jr. playing a drum solo when he was 12 years old (He's 21 now I think) and it was amazing. Look it up in LimeWire. You'll be impressed.

If we're talkin about creativity, tasty licks (and I don't mean who can play 8 million notes in one measure), and layin down a solid groove I'd have to go with Stewart Copeland with out a doubt.

Dave Weckl is a freak of nature. Carter Beauford blows me away. Bruford, Bruford, Bruford, Bruford... Billy Cobham, Jeff Sipe (AKA apt. Q. 258) is amazing as well. I Love Neil Peart. There's a session drummer named Jon Knox who used to play with White Heart (SHUT UP!) and Adam Again that I really like. I don't know his name, but the drummer for Israel Houghton and The New Breed is unbelievable. Marvin "Smitty" Smith. Dennis Chambers!!! Best clinic I ever saw was Kenny Aranoff from Mellencamp's band. Who would have ever guessed he had such amazing chops? Greg Bissonette has some of the best chops on the planet. Abraham Laboriel Jr. Tim Alexander from Primus. Stewart Copeland....
For percussion, Alex Acuna is my favorite.
I'll probably think of a bunch more in a couple of minutes. I base it on guys I really want to play with at some point in my career.
