Top 5 RBs of all time

Post by bassjones »

Sanders
Payton
Brown
Simpson (I don't care what he did off the field)
Dickerson

Left the current all-time rushing leader off because it's about greatness, not longevity. He was good, not great, he just played forever.

1. Walter Payton
2. Jim Brown
3. Barry Sanders
4. Eric Dickerson
5. OJ Simpson

I thought Payton was a combination of Barry Sanders & Jim Brown.......One play he'd totally burn you with an awesome move & the next play, he'd run you over............Everyone loved Walter Payton.

1. Payton
2. Sanders
3. Brown
4. Sayers
5. Bo

I think it's safe to say Sayers would've been nearer the top of this list had it not been for devastating injuries. Everyone I know who ever saw him play still swears he's the best back they've ever seen.

Bo makes the list because I grew up playing Tecmo. Nuff said.

I bumped Sanders down a bit because of the way he retired.

BTW, for a brief period of time, Earl Campbell was unstoppable.
Fair enough on the Sanders thing. But if you're dropping him for that, don't you also have to drop O.J. for killing people?

And Earl did almost make my list - alongside Eric Dickerson.

Let me get this straight...

You bumped Barry because of the way he retired, but you moved OJ up?

If we're going to talk about "if they hadn't gotten injured" guys, you have to include Billy Sims. Until he got hurt that guy was sick!

I like seeing someone put Bettis down. That guy was a machine.

Yeah, I probably should, but OJ had been out of football for about 15 years before he killed anybody. So, for some reason, I seperate OJ the football player and OJ the murderer in my mind. But Barry Sanders quit because he hated playing football for the lions. That affects my opinion of him as a football player.
Why? I'm a Lions fan and I wouldn't have wanted to play for them at that time. He'd grown tired of losing and they had a 2nd year QB who wasn't exactly Peyton Manning, plus an aging defense. He just decided he was done.
