Routines // everyday life

Post by eds »

My first submissions to the 3R5 arts collective out of New York.

http://www.weare3r5.com

This project was entitled "Routines"; our objective was to create a work of art conveying an everyday routine from our life.

Don't hate....

Okay, lets see if I can do this without pissing off anyone.

I don't get it.

There I said it. I confess with the utmost respect for the artist., but man, I gotta say I just don't get it.

I understand that art is subjective and I am sure that some will say my photography is crap. While I appreciate the time and effort put into a piece like these, the elements seem so sterile and disconnected, that to my eye (and tastes) it lacks any direction.

There is a display of art at Henry's right now that is a collage of items randomly assembled. You really need to stop by and take a look at this conglomeration of 'stuff', and I lack the proper description for this type of art, but it too does not speak to me.

Perhaps some enlightenment?

I would say, I don't know if you (or anyone for that matter) should get it.

Art is there to provoke an emotional responce not neccessarly have a message.

Hmmm...a art piece about pooping and it makes you think it feels 'sterile and disconnected'. I'd say the artist accomplished his job.

Oliver's-
Don't worry about pissing me off with your opinion. That's what art is all about. Not everybody is gonna like it. Frankly if everyone else liked everything we artists did, life would be pretty boring. My art is somewhat random because life is random and I draw my inspiration directly from everyday life. Textures, random objects and words, and miscellaneous shapes are what make me happy, so that is what I do. If one is good at portraits or still lifes, than that is what they should do.

Yes the first "routine" piece represents pooping, sh!tting, dumping, whatever...it's an everyday thing. The second piece (maybe a little harder to understand) represents my daily diet of fast food meals, and it's impending toxicity on my physical health. I purposely made them so that the viewer doesn't really "get it", and can draw their own conclusion as to what the visuals represent to them. To me, the best art is art that leads to a different experience for each individual.

Honest opinions, good or bad are much appreciated. As long as you have some kind of emotional response, that's all I could ask for. Thanks!
