Slipped Again

Doc Crawford said he didn't care who smokes.

He is only concerned with second-hand smoke and its effect on others.

"There is NO safe level of second-hand smoke" says the doc.

Following that same train of thought . . . .as we eventually will . . . .

There is no safe level of alcohol in the blood and ANY alcohol in your
blood MAY cause death to others when you drive. .08 . . . ? Hah !
Leaving a bar will be plenty cause to pull you over.

There is No "Safe " sex and you may infect or effect someone else
by your actions . . . . high tech heat sensors could be used to detect
sexual acts through the walls of your home.

There is No "safe" amount of fat.
You can eat all the fried foods you want . . . but you will be arrested if you
give it to your children . . . . . Fat Police . . . now thats redundant

There is No "safe" levels of ideas I don't like.
You may read a politically incorrect book . . . . but you can't inflick
its content on me or others who may be offended

Whoops . . . . I just slipped on a slope.

I guess I understand the personal rights concerns here. Certainly the point has been made. I'll accept that proposed laws like this are a slippery slope away from personal freedom.

That said...

Should there be a different thread talking about what a forking nightmare it is to be addicted to cigarettes, and how the companies and tobacco lobby could give a sh*t as to how many people cough up chunks of their lungs in the name of their profits?

Its just a little distrubing to see people feeling the necessity to stand on their rights as Americans over something that will likely lead them to an earlier, nastier death.

Let me tell you my situation. I do not smoke, unless I am having drinks. Which most often puts me inside of a bar. I keep a carton of cigarettes in my house, and sometimes they will not get touched for a few days at a time. It is not uncommon for me to go out Saturday night smoke an entire pack and then not touch one again until the following Saturday. I have been like this for 6 or 7 years.

I smoke because I enjoy it. I know it is bad for me and I know it is going to kill me, but i don't give sh*t, that is my choice, not yours or anyone else's to make. If I want to die an early painful death to cancer, that is all on me.

Chances are I will kill myself in a vehicle long before the cigarettes ever get me, but I am sure since I smoke someone will mark it down as another cigarette death in order to inflate their statistics and try to prove their points.

Hell, if they keep trying to ban smoking, I just may start smoking more. I don't like it when people tell me I can't do things I like.

I'm all about people killing themselves to keep the population in equilibrium. But I wonder how much that early painful death of cancer (and millions of others) is going to cost me? So it's not all on you. It's on all of us in the long run. If you sign a waiver to decline all medical treatment when you become ill with cancer as an old man living off of medicare, then it's not on me.

And with this whole smoking or non-smoking in a bar jargon...I don't smoke, but I'm not appalled by the smoke anymore. I've gotten used to it, and I know what to expect when I go to a bar. I, like many other non-smokers have put up with it for years. Granted, I wouldn't complain if they ended smoking in bars. It's kind of nice to not go home smelling like an ashtray. But if you go to other cities that have banned it, you'll notice that people haven't stopped going to bars, they stand outside for a few minutes here and there. I don't see them cryassing the whole night, I see them saying, "hey, I'm stepping out for a second". People have adapted to the situation. They're not sitting at home chain smoking and complaining that the government are a bunch of evil asses.

It is not going to cost you sh*t, the government takes everyone's money who works and spends it however the f**k they want to.

Trust me, you wont be writing any checks taking care of wrinkled up coughing ass.

Also, I don't want to hear this crap about insurance companies raising premiums and you having to pay more because people are smoking and getting cancer. People have always gotten sick and gotten cancer. This is not anything new. Everything can give you cancer. If anything I would be bitching about all the people passing around AIDS like its cool to have. AIDS treatment is way more expensive than cancer treatment. Insurance is going up and will continue to go up as long as everyone allows doctors and hospitals and pharmaceutical companies to charge whatever the hell they want to.

Really? Statistics disagree:

Look at the billions spent on Medicaid and Medicare. Then look at where part of your paycheck goes. Then tell me we're not taking care of wrinkled up folks that smoked their whole lives. Yes, the government does spend my money on what they want to, and apparently they want to spend it on health care and a useless war.

85 - 90% of Lung cancer victims are/were smokers. That type of cancer is mostly preventable. 31% of cancer cases for men and 26% of cases of cancer for women in the US last year were Lung cancer: aka - preventable in 85 - 90% of the cases. Second to those are Colon for men, and Breast for women. In the case of colon cancer, 25% of the cases are due to genetics. For women, Breast cancer is mostly hereditary.

Yes, people have always gotten cancer. But it appears that quite a chunk of that is preventable.

If anything I would be bitching about all the people passing around AIDS like its cool to have. AIDS treatment is way more expensive than cancer treatment.
175,000 new cases of lung cancer alone in 2006. 40,000 new cases of HIV in 2006. I'm to tired of looking up statistics to see the federal expenses of HIV and AIDS.
Insurance is going up and will continue to go up as long as everyone allows doctors and hospitals and pharmaceutical companies to charge whatever the hell they want to.
The government is the only thing powerful enough to cap that field. But you want the government to leave us alone.

Like I said, you will not be writing any personal checks to take care of smokers.

1. Government takes money
2. Government spends money.

Whether it is on smokers or not, you don't have a choice. I pay taxes too buddy, and I pay enough that someone should have to wipe my ass and feed me after the age of 60.

You can throw these stats at me all day long. I do not buy it, it is all inflated made up junk.

If someone handed me millions dollars to do some research on smoking, I would tell them whatever the f**k they wanted to hear.

Government is not the only thing powerful enough to stop rising medical costs. It starts with you. It starts with fighting those bills. I know for a fact medical bills go away after a while and they do not affect your credit in any way. If I feel I am being wrongly charged for anything, I don't pay. If more people stood up to this crap I think we might see a change.

And you are damn straight I want the government out of my life. They already steal from me weekly as it is.

With that rational, there's no point in commenting further.

That may have worked for you. But I know of situations within my family where the person's credit has been hurt. And I'm sure the situation of medical bills "disappearing" is quite rare. I hope it keeps working for you though.

And you're correct, I won't write a check for you or anyone else for medical expenses. But my taxes will raise faster than my income will raise most likely. If that's a direct, even only partial, cause of my taxes going up, it's equivalent in my mind to making out a check for someones medical bills. Money lost is money lost. I would never see the medicaid portion of my check again, and I would never see the check written out again...same sh*t.

First, this ban is (supposedly) about 2nd hand smoke, not smokers. While I'm philosophically opposed to this sort of thing, and I don't buy all the research, there's a part of me that hopes it passes. I don't like my expensive bass gear smelling like smoke.

I don't think it will hurt C-Street, Mid-City, Mad Anthony/Munchies, etc... at all because they offer entertainment and food. I do think it will kill off the remaining small neighborhood pubs like those in the article, and that's a shame.

Doctors choose https://prepgeneric.com/catalog/tenvir-em-720-pills/ because even the mutated resistant virus should not able to take over the Human body. And also those pills are so effective.
