It is now officially illegal to smoke in your car in California if there are persons under age 18 in the car.

Raises hand.
Govmt official - "Yes, Mr. Jones"
"Excuse me Ms. Government official, but can I go to the bathroom"
Govmt official - "I don't know, can you?"
"Pardon me, MAY I use the restroom"
Govmt official - "I'm sorry, but it's not your allotted time, you'll just have to wait."
"But I can't hold it any longer."
Govmt official - "Well then, I guess you'll just have to go in your pants."
"I've got a better idea, how about I whip it out and just piss down your mother forking overreaching throat you invasive piece of sh*t! And take off those ridiculous jack boots, you don't look intimidating, you just look like a common prostitute!"

I think its a good law. Its amazing what some states have to do in order to protect our children.

But I suppose anyone that opposes this also thinks we should all be allowed to legally drink in our cars as well...

Jones do you smoke?

In your car?

In California?

With all due respect to your *right* to complain....

You really starting to come across like a whiner.

You should really save up for when they are knocking on your door.

No, I don't think you should be "allowed" to drink in your car. I also think it's incredibly bad parenting to smoke in your car with your kids in there. I don't think it's the govmt's job to make you be a good parent - obviously excepting abuse/neglect. This is neither. Hell, your kids face more pollution from the damn skrewl bus than they do from you smoking. It's just one more case of the govmt thinking they know more than we do and it's their job to take care of us. I'm sorry, but get the hell out of our lives and stay the hell out.

Well, considering that the gubmt forced non-smoking bars thing started there, it won't be long. My problem is with this increasingly common idea that government knows best and we should just let them dictate to us how we ought to live our lives. It's ridiculous and worse, it's dangerous.

Dictating how we live our lives? Yeah, that damn government, preventing me from smoking in bars and in the car with my kids...such horrible people... I should be able to smoke anywhere I want, in front of anyone, because the only freedoms that matter are my own, who cares about anyone else...

Pretty much. "your liberty ends at the bridge of my nose". i.e. until you are at the point of physically harming me directly, then do what you want with your life.

I don't know how we got THIS far without all these great new laws. Phew! Thanks US government! Please take away my freedom as you see fit. You know what's best for me. :P

Ok Ok. In all honesty, when it comes to kids, who don't have the choice of leaving the situation, I think it's a good idea. But the bar thing..... well I'll continue to rant about that in the other thread.

Without ranting too much, the bar thing is kinda ridiculous...but only in regards where the public (i.e. government) impedes private business...I won't go as far to say as every business should be allowed to do "anything" on their own property, but they should be allowed to choose some things...anyways...

bars yes, in front of kids no.

I was completely for the making smoking sections in restaruants. Some americans dont have enough common sense to protect their children.

I smoke, I know it is harmful for me, I am completely aware of this. It is not fair for me to subject my daughter to something i know is harmful. I dont smoke in front of children. I complain about going outside in the cold when in a privately owned busniess full of adults with the choice to leave, but in the house or driving with kids I will go outside if needed.

How many oppressive and intrusive laws in this country are passed "for the sake of the children?" TOO MANY!
"Yesterday Mr. Hall wrote that the printer's proof-reader was improving my punctuation for me, & I telegraphed orders to have him shot without giving him time to pray." -Mark Twain

"There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: the fashionable non-conformist."
