The Jim & Shelly Show

Post by Silencio »

In the spirit of self-promotion, here's an update:

Shelly Dixon and I are continuing to rehearse our duo act, and it goes swimmingly. We're on target to get out and about in late January, doing a cool, introspective set that lives somewhere in the center of a triangle bounded by folk, rock and jazz.

On a personal note, I'd like to say that Shelly is a swell singer, but she's also one of the warmest and bravest people I've ever met, and I honestly consider it an honor to be backing her up. This is a voice that Fort Wayne has missed, and I'm proud to be helping to bring it back.

Rock, rock on.

Is that the name of the duo?

Nothing snappy like "Wally and the Beav"?

(Shelly being Wally, of course.)

hehehehe

She's a sweetheart of a person too.

Let us know the first gig date and we will be out

We talked about going out as "Freebie and the Bean," but that didn't feel right.

Wiseguy. :)

It's official:

The Jim And Shelly Show will debut Wednesday, February 27th at Dupont Bar & Grille.

They do an evening of three performers on Wednesdays, I'm told, and so we'll only be playing one set, probably the 10 o'clock hour. This is a great chance for us to get our feet wet, run through an hour's worth of songs and start feeling it.... you know, keepin' it real.

Come out and have a cold one and hear the lovely and talented Shelly Dixon give some songs a neck rub, while I provide some minimal harmonic structure.

The act will be billed as "Shelly Dixon."

Whattya think... is that "catchy" enough? Gosh, I hope so.

Well, I really wanted to come up with one of those wicked cool, ultimately-catchy "Present Participle/Somebody's Name" things, but the only one that hasn't been taken turned out to be "Lambasting Carlton."

Exactly. It's her songlist, and she'll continue to gig long after I'm gone, so it only makes sense.

I got a text from Shelly last night that said the show was off. Do you have anything else in the works?

Oh, yeah, that would have been this week. Damn it.

No, I bailed on the act three weeks ago: I have a chronic disease that was in remission when we began, but has since has become enough of a problem to make it difficult if not impossible for me to perform live, so... to my utter disappointment, we aren't working together anymore. I didn't want to be that guy that does three shows and then says, "I'm out."

Shelly did sing a couple of jingle projects for me since the beginning of the year, though (and just killed the last one she did), and we got to be friends, so it wasn't a total loss.

But it would have been a real joy for me... the rehearsals were great, we were breaking in some real cool songs, and I think the world of Ms. Dixon.
