I think this will get more attention here. Since you're not really advertising your services, just asking for some listens and feedback, I think that this forum is the place.

Shadow left in the old forum, so um, yeah. I'll listen to it after work, but I have to get out of here in 5 minutes and that will entail wrangling a three-year-old.

I listened to Empire and it sounded ok. I'm not up on this style, but it sounded pretty clear. Maybe a bit too much Mid, for my liking, but, that's just me.

Hey iBanks thanks for the feedback. Yeah it's not not my kind of music either and it's not done yet obviously since there isn't a "vocal" on it (if you call screaming a vocal :P ). I think once that's in there I will pocket out some of the mids from the guitars to make some room for it and it will blend better.

I like it (although it's not my style).

Isn't that kind of production usually over-limited, so that you get the sense of the kick drum kind of "interrupting" all the other audio?

Also, are those POD guitars? That might be contributing to the build up of high mids. (no slam, I use a POD Pro every day.)

Geez, man, those guitars are WAY beyond triple tracked!

Listening to Empires right now. I really dig the groove. I don't know jack about production, so I'm no help there. I'm assuming this is a demo. I hope it is because there are a couple of rhythm hiccups in the guitars and drums here and there. The solo/lead thing has a very vocal quality to it, so simple, but good. Matches the song. The breakdown seemed a bit out of place, but still solid. Good transition back INTO the main part.

Overall, I like it. I think it could turn into a great song with the right vocalist!

Thanks again Garr for the input. Yep there are some serious timing issues but they didn't seem to care or want to correct them - I think it's a money issue (isn't is always?). It's still 'in process' and when it's done I will re-post the final.

And Silencio yes those guitars were double tracked. Meaning, we mic'd the cabinets and also took the signal direct then doubled them...so that really there is 4 tracks of the same part but only two guitar parts going on. I didn't use a POD but did use Guitar Rig 2 from NI. They have some really good models. The solo is a modeled sound too.

Thanks again for the input folks!

Not a bad song but, geesh you gotta record with a click track especially with this kind of music. Another example of gtr players not listening to the drummer. (And the drummer always gets the bad rap!)

GUitar Rig rocks. I use that software frequently, too, and it will do a similar thing as a POD.... you gotta watch the build up of high-mids with digital models, or they start to sound real synth-y.

Sorry, but I'd pretty much pin this one on the drummer too. All over the place time wise and some nasty unclear fills. I think the guitars did a decent job considering.

I do, however, agree about the click track. Gotta have it!

Yeah I agree about the click. I asked them if they wanted one and no one did. I think some are intimidated with the idea of a click. These guys are young so we will need to cut them a break but even considering the timing issues sonically I feel it is coming along. I'm interested in seeing how it turns out.

Thanks for the input folks...

For any of you that made comments on the mix I made some adjustments that I'd like your feedback on. It's still not exactly where I want it but I think it's headed in the right direction....
