Why doese the local scene suck so bad.....

Talk about anything specifically related to local music. Local CD's, websites, local, local, local!

Why? It works in Nashville.

This is weird... the conservative is pushing for a union, and the liberal is opposed to it...
I f*ckin hate unions, always have. And I'm sure there are quite a few alienated musicians because of it in Nashville. I doubt it "works" as well as you'd like to think it does.

I would wager there are not enough working musicians to fill a union.

When I say 'working' I don't mean bands playing shows; but activlely selling their music for other media purposes (advertising, etc.) or working as a studio musician. The Nashville Musicians Union website (which totally sucks balls BTW) seems to cater to those folks and not 'bar' bands.

I can understand the want / need for some of their services but I think a union would kill the local scene. None of the bands I know have enough money as it is let alone to try and pay dues for a Union membership.

yeah our scene sucks. WAH. i fully accept that so i just try and help it out as best as i can anyway. this is the only scene weve got, so either do something about it, or shut the f**k up and move somewhere else.

I actually think our scene is pretty healthy for a town this size. Find one better in a similar sized town.

For the first 3 years I was in my band, we asked for gas money and nothing else. Now that we've gotten signed and are needing better equipment and what not, we usually ask for just a little bit more, to cover gas and also van repairs. But then again we're just kids doing what we love on the weekends. It's obviously different for people who are trying to make this a career.

As for the scene "sucking" I can honestly say I've never been happier than now with turnouts and the general positivity of the kids at shows. I know a lot of you aren't involved in the "hardcore" scene, but for those of us that are, we see a lot of new faces every time we have a local show, and we also see the same friends that have been supporting us for years. I wish I could've gone to a Harrison House show before they stopped though. That's basically the only thing I regret, and the only thing that sucks.

The Harrison House did rule. We played a show there and were welcomed by the attendees as well as the homeowners. It did great things for the local hard rock scene. It really is too bad that it had to go out.

sorry definately gary. you guys dont suck. i take it all back and blame it on alcoholism.
i will say fort wayne needs a unique venue for independant local music not just a club or a hall. i have heard about the harrison house and how the shows there were pretty entertaining, and not that im a fan of hardcore or emo or what ever but a good show is a good show. that is how the new jersey hardcore scene got so big was house shows.
take lafayette for instance, downtown records is a record store by day and a venue by night. they started with just garage rock bands once a week now they have local and regional acts of all genres 2 or 3 nights a week all shows are all ages. the scene is thriving and its less than half the
size of fort wayne. i dont think our scene is dead it just needs a swift kick in the a$$ to get it going.

if you like blue grass check out these guys

here are some other bands from lafayette

I dont think our scene is dead at all, I think right now we have an enormous amount of talent and originality in Fort Wayne.

I think the biggest thing is getting exposure for fort wayne out side of fort wayne.

We have the talent, we just dont have the right people listening for us to take off.

well guys in my "6" year i have learnt one thing that matters most...i can learn the most, from the people who know the most. i learnt alot today after reading all of those post. and i can deffinatly ryhm. tell you what guys...why dont all of you come to one of my concerts and see what i have been able to do with my "6" years of experience and you can sit back with your jaw dropped. come see my new RATM cover band called "The Machine Rages on" we just installed our new lighting system with these sweet new intelligent lights and a cool spot light. we also just bought new foggers *something that most venues lack* and we upgraded our high end on the mains which now match perfectly with our low end selection. we even raised out drum stage a good 3 inches(WOW). wait, to top it off, we even started selling pre-show tickets. and there forking DIRT CHEAP...no, not because the bands suck, because the cheaper it is, the more people seem to want to buy a ticket. (funny how that works, isn't it)

anyway, here is the link to the fliar, its in Bluffton indiana, but its still pretty sweet.

to be completely honest. I'm 19 years old, and to be completely honest again, since I have started posting on this board, i get repeatedly ripped for my poor typing skills. but hey, i guess it comes with being that i only have "6" years of experience in the "local" scene.

What I was saying in that post for those of you who can't seem to figure it out. Thank you for your post, I learned alot today after reading them. Now if you think that your 10 to 20 years plus is so amazing, you should come check out what I have been able to accomplish in my six year run. you just might be suprised
