Why doese the local scene suck so bad.....

Talk about anything specifically related to local music. Local CD's, websites, local, local, local!

There's gonna be original music.......some bands might do a couple covers, but that's what a lot of the local venues expect. They want covers a lot of the times so some of the bands on this show will have a cover or two....... but there will be original music, more than you could ever imagine. The December 16th show is just something to light the fire under some peoples' asses. The last show I went to at Sunset wasn't that packed, so this show is a way to get business back in. We will have a guarenteed 360 people there.

I pretty much was bored and had nothing better to say.

So I plugged away

some bands get together and think they are the hottest sh*t since sliced bread when in fact they are not. When a band gets together they are not intitled to sh*t except maybe the opportunity to play and show what they`ve got. Respect is earned not given or taken by force. You get what you give. 2ndly this scene sucks cuz there are not enough venues that are willing to let any band get up on stage and show what they`ve got KUDOS TO LEGENDS for that. 3rd the majority of the musicians in this town are close minded and will not go out side of there realm of music to hear others of a different vein of music. I`m not saying all musicians are like this I`m saynig most. There is no unity and I dont care who thinks that there is. There is unity in the sects of the different scenes with in this toilet of a town but not as a whole. Now that I`m finished talking you can piss, moan and complain about what I`ve said all you want, I wont bother to read or reply to any of the bitching that may pursue.
keep your freinds close cuz they may be gone tomorrow.

So I can expect the two of you at the next country and western show, or perhpas a nice classical performance... or a traditional jazz ensemble?

Its not about close-mindedness, its about preferences.

how did i know you would chime in??

i have been to all different types of shows in this city. im willing to bet ive been to more than you. i grew up on jazz. definately get into the classical from time to time.(samples and sh*t)
you got me on the country and western tho. good one.

ive rocked shows with hardcore kids, and collaborated with members of axion jackson for years. my main man king is in the philharmonic and ive peeped a few of those performances. preferences are preferences and everyone has em. but, there are to many closed minds. bottom line. and ollie you are definately one em.

outside of the marvelous sankofa, how many hiphop shows have you been to olivers army??

I don't know where you get that idea about my close-mindedness regarding music.

Not at all.

But I am certainly not going to defend my tastes, opinions or history to someone who already has formed some fabricated opinion about me. Who, despite any attempts on my part to sway you otherwise, will never flinch from his opinion.

Who's close-minded now?

NEVER have I ever said, suggested or implied that rap or hip hop was not a viable music form. NEVER.

However, I have said that in other than a few cases, it was just not my thing. No Harm No foul. No disrespect for the artists or the genre.

I don't attend many hip hop events NOT that I *hate* anything about it, I don't go to shows because I don't dig it. Its not my roots, its not my lifestyle, its not my peers, it does not speak to me. Why would you EXPECT me to go to shows?

I wouldn't expect anyone to spend money where they don't want to.

Its the same reason I dont do NASCAR, tractor pulls, WWE or ultimate fighting matches. Doesnt mean I dont appreciate the work involved or the bazillion dollars these rake in each year.

Just because any one has seen a diversity of musical genres means nothing. While I applaud your involvement, I am disappointed the this diversity you pride yourself on hasn't allowed you to also realize that a person does not HAVE to love, or even like a genre of music to appreciate the talent that goes into it.

In the end my opinions are mine and yours are yours.

But it does seem that some people appreciate my opinion, as myself and a handful of others were recruited by the 3 Rivers Festival to help provide some guidance on how to change the festival entertainment for the better.

I will be sure to bring my closed mind to the meeting when we are suggesting artists to perform on Hip Hop night.

let me get this right. please correct me if im wrong.

first you say you dont like shows, dont go to shows. basically your above shows.

then you went on to say that you make recommendations to the 3rf comittee to help find local music to showcase.

how do you know who has good live shows and who doesnt??

thats the problem with this city, your a moderator at FORT WAYNE MUSIC, yet you dont support the scene. you recommend acts for the biggest week long party in our city every year, but you are out of touch. (by your own admission)
honestly, you should have nothing at all to say about the state of OUR scene. f**k your moderation. anybody who reads your last post knows you have no credibility.

thank you for clearing that up.

you do nothing for the fort wayne music scene, besides get online and jack your b*tch ass jaw??

it probably good for you that you dont go to shows...

Well... The implication is that you won't be on Oli's "short list" of recommended hip-hop performers at TRF.

Suggest all you want. It's a public forum...

Why would he have to stay out of this? Is this conversation above him? I am seriously curious. What makes him not able to talk of this matter.
