really, dude just bring your band and play a show somewhere.

I for one have shared the stage with several punk bands in the area. These shows were soooooo punk rock that no one came.

^ At least it wasn't one of the shows where the ska band outnumbers the audience.

there were a lot of Punk shows going down at the viking dojo but that place shut down. I'm not sure why but Punk venues just seem to shut down.

Thats what I'm talkin' 'bout! You can't label yourself a punk band and expect people to give a sh*t. You gotta get up there and earn that thang. Otherwise you come off as needy and sad in my book.

all ages punk venues get shut down here mainly because the kids have no respect. i read once cbgbs ower said "there is nothing punk about getting the place that puts on punk shows shut down" but kids around here dint understand that they would rather do there underage drink at the venue and theaten it of being closed then down the block in some alley. thats why i belive there are no punk venues around here. and as for just getting up and playing thats so true SOTWs first show was with a jazz group, a metal group, and a classic rock group, just go up there and rock it doesnt maater who else is playing do you own thing.

Yeah, what's up with that?

Do those guys like having their family member getting crushed and the jewels squeezed? I hope to God you don't think that makes you a man. In fact, I would say it lessens your chances that you ARE a man. Maybe a little prepubescent boy, but not a man.

sorry, that topic just gets me steamed and makes me wanna buy the baggiest pants out there.

I was told by a friend that it might be a way to protest against the rappers baggy pants style. I know baggy pants mean 'easy access'.
But the tight pants don't allow any access.
I hate fashion

Fact is, punk isn't a style you play - it's an attitude. Saying you're "punk" doesn't mean anything, because it's such a wide open genre. Ska often falls into this classification, but so do the Sex Pistols. The Ataris were once considered punk, but now they're mostly associated with emo - which is sometimes considered a subset of punk (though it's really just whiny music for 12 year old girls). Green Day used to be considered punk, but they just released a rock opera. Are they no longer punk, or was the rock opera thing so off the wall that it's the most punk thing they've ever done? Some people considered the Beastie Boys punk, especially when they first released "Liscensed to Ill", because what they were doing flew so in the face of mainstream rap at the time. Was Ice-T's group Body Count punk? An early 90's metal group fronted by a black rapper singing songs about killing cops? Sounds pretty punk to me. Then you have Me First and the Gimme Gimmes who defy classification even under all these sets, yet are undeniably punk.

If you want to play shows around here define your sound and find bands to play shows with. I know my first few shows involved opening for other bands then, once my foot was in the door, booking my own shows at those same venues. You've got to get out and network, find similar musicians, and work together.

If you need suggestions about bands that have been great to play and work with, PM me for info.
