Martinez was studying graphic design at IPFW in an exchange
program with New Mexico State University. Officials may explain the connection between Martinez and Morris, but Indiana's NewsCenter has learned that Morris's daughter and the victim were room mates at the school.
There are a lot of issues that I won't go into because they're very personal, but I am familiar with the mother and daughter and their family background.

You know, I would kind of like some details. I live less than a mile away from where this happened and other murders occurred, and I am out of town for days at a time, leaving my wife at home alone. I really do not feel good about leaving my wife unprotected and alone if this is random violence.

This town is forking going downhill. 1 arrest for all these murders? WTF!!

Seriously, can't we pull some of these cops off of traffic duty and put them to work protecting our citizens from murders and theft?

not random. mom was living in the dorm. that's publicly available info. I can't go into any detail about mommy dearest.

the cops "know" who did most of the other murders too, but they can't arrest anybody until the investigations are completed. since Michael Lewis walked away after killing a cop, they've been very cautious about making sure things are air tight. Those other murders weren't random either. They were targeted killings - except the IPFW student who got caught in the crossfire of somebody else's beef.

Your wife is perfectly safe. You might want to brush her up on her shooting skills just in case, but that's probably just me being a bitter small town hick clinging to my guns and religion :)

Well, I wasn't going to say anything, but.... :)

The people that get me are the kids at IPFW talking about not coming back to campus next year because they, "don't feel safe anymore." I understand it's a tough time for them right now, but IPFW did not become anymore scary after this sole incident.

3, actually. There was a professor killed a few years ago, and there have been two in the last month. But the point still stands.

Were those ON campus or did the victims just have ties to IPFW?

The JG is reporting that it's the only violent crime to take place on campus in the school's history.

Of course, they just got dorms a couple of years ago, so that's bound to change. The professor was killed by a student, but not on campus. The one earlier this month was a student at an off-campus party.

on edit: I'm almost positive there were a couple of rapes on campus a few years ago, and some assaults as well. This may be the first homicide, but I don't believe it's accurate to say this was the first "violent" crime on campus in 40 years. I'll have to double check that. I'm going off memory from when I was a student there.

So statistically, the most dangerous part of attending IPFW is still the drive there and back in your automobile? ;-)

No offense, but I'm going to take the word of the chancellor over yours until it's proven otherwise.

Yeah, memory is way too subjective...

And statistics are bunk. There are multiple definitions for "violent", "crime" and even "on campus". Not to mention whether a past crime was even reported to get in a stat...
